High Performance (or “HP” as most people refer to the program as) is comprised of some of the top athletes in the region. For Iowa, tryouts were held across the state this past winter to receive an invitation to the high performance camp which was held at Coe College in early June where athletes trained with some of the top college, club, and high school coaches across the state. From there athletes are offered an invite to be on the Iowa Region High Performance teams. There are seven teams that will be representing Iowa with Girl’s Future Select, Girl’s Select Black (International), Girl’s Select Red (National), Girl’s Youth National, Boy’s Select National, and Boy’s Youth National.

The Iowa Girls Select squads are full of top athletes mostly from the Class of 2022 (incoming Sophomores) and Class of 2023 (Incoming Freshmen). Even though all of these athletes aren’t old enough to drive themselves to practice, they have a resume full of solid volleyball experience which this will only add valuable training and top competition to their game. Calia Clubb of Clear Creek-Amana High School and Iowa Rockets has developed into one of the top right sides in the Class of 2022 and was part of the Iowa Rockets 3rd place National Division team at USAV Nationals. Others have already found themselves on state tournament level programs with Tatum Carlson from Tri Center-Neola, Bailey Van Voorst out of Pella, Kiersten Schmitt out of Dyersville Beckman, and Claudia Aschenbrenner who will prep at Osage. AJ (Ava) Schubert of Iowa Select has been playing up on the Iowa Select 16 Mizuno team and will prep at Davenport Assumption. Schubert will be a top right side with a huge left handed swing and one to watch this upcoming fall.
I always preface this with we usually don’t cover below 15s, but Class of 2023 (8th grader) Ava Schubert of @iowaselectvbc is doing some special things on the court. Six foot, left handed, heavy swing, strong block. Will be a fun athlete to watch the next few years! pic.twitter.com/R2nFysOhOc
