Continue ReadingJuly is a time for a lot of individual training, playing with and against new athletes, and for some a chance to compete at the USA High Performance Championships held in Fort Lauderdale later this month. Over the course of the spring, tryouts were held across the country before national qualifiers where athletes could get the chance to get on the pathway to the podium by being selected to compete for the USAV HP Training Teams. The athletes who are selected for the A1 training program are some of the tops in the country and here are a few from Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin who will be among the best of the best. Prep Dig will be taking a closer look at HP throughout the month of July.
Women’s Junior A1 National Team
Olivia Tjernagel – Mayer Lutheran (MN) – High Voltage Volleyball Club
Class of 2020 – Committed To Northern Iowa
Tjernagel will be heading to compete for one of the top teams in the Missouri Valley Conference following her prep career at Mayer Lutheran where she is a multisport standout in volleyball and basketball. Tjernagel is one of the top middles in the Class of 2020 in Minnesota where she can also play on the pin. Long, athletic, and really dominant on the net, she is the type of athlete where UNI will turn into one of the top players in their league.

Bailey Ortega – Davenport North (IA) – Eastern Iowa Xtreme
Class of 2020 – Committed To Iowa
Ortega just has a spark about her on the court, she makes her team better no matter what the situation may be. A setter who is constantly communicating with her teammates, consistent energy, and getting her hands on every ball, she is a workhorse. This past week, Ortega was on the Eastern Iowa Xtreme 17 Teal squad that was the winner of the 17 National Division at USAV Nationals in Indianapolis.
Girls Youth A1 National Team
Natalie Ring – Edgewood (WI) – Capital Volleyball Academy
Class of 2022 – Uncommitted
Ring is a rising prospect out of Wisconsin in a loaded class of pin hitters. She’s touching ten feet, and is extremely physical. The past two seasons, she has been playing up an age level for the Capital Adidas teams and is a consistent go to attacker for CVA. Her strength and athleticism is what sets her apart from the rest and playing against high level competition will continue to elevate her game.
Girls Select A1 National Team
Adriana Studer – Lake Country Lutheran (WI) – Milwaukee Sting
Class of 2022 – Uncommitted
Studer is one of the top liberos in the Class of 2022 in Wisconsin. She already has a state title under her belt as a member of the Lake Country Lutheran team in the Milwaukee area. At the AAU National Tournament, Studer’s team finished in the Gold Bracket and a tie for 5th place. Not only is Studer a consistent force on the hardcourt, but is a talented beach player as well.
Allyson Barth – Edgewood (WI) – Balance
Class of 2022 – Uncommitted
Barth is actually high school teammates with Natalie Ring for Edgewood out of the Madison area. A six foot middle with speed, athleticism, and a fast arm, Barth has a huge upside to her game. Getting a chance to play against some of the best will really bring her to a whole new level and get on the radar to others outside of Wisconsin.
Brooke Porter – Muskego (WI) – Milwaukee Sting
Class of 2022 – Uncommitted
Porter is extremely dynamic. She can score and play defense in all rotations and can score points from either pin, a swiss army knife so to speak who can do a little bit of everything. Her ability to use the block and find the open spot on the court really brings out her creativity with how she can score points for her team.
Absolutely loooved watching @MadiKubik play, but Hayden Kubik is not the future, but the NOW! Having such a strong tournament for @CISvolleyball pic.twitter.com/g2VkCKVUFl

Hayden Kubik – West Des Moines Valley (IA) – Central Iowa Select
Class of 2022 – Uncommitted
Big time power. Kubik has a heavy swing and is a ferocious attacker, but that isn’t the only stellar part of her game that sets her apart as one of the top outside hitters in Iowa as well as the country. Kubik can position herself to be a physical blocker and can also serve receive and pass to keep her team in system. An electric and exciting player to watch, she will be fun to watch develop her all around game. She will be a big time recruit coaches will be after in less than a year.
Kaminski playing at Northern Lights Qualifier.
Karissa Kaminski – Howards Grove (WI) – FC Elite
Class of 2022 – Dayton
Kaminski can do it all. This past fall as a Freshman, she was an All State outside hitter for Howards Grove High School in Wisconsin, last summer she was on the Badger Region HP team as a setter, and this winter she committed to Dayton as a libero. High IQ, high energy, and intensity. A gritty competitor, she finds a way to win for her team and will be a big time addition to the Flyer Family in a few years.
Kendal Kemp – Rodgers (MN) – MN Select
Class of 2022 – Uncommitted
Kemp is one of the top middle blockers in the Class of 2022 in Minnesota. At 6’5, extremely mobile, and athletic, Kemp brings a physicality to the net that very few can do. A Big Ten type of athlete who has been playing up on the MN Select 16’s this past season, Kemp is one to keep tabs on over the next year.
Kendall Minta – Eden Prairie (MN) – Northern Lights
Class of 2022 – Uncommitted
Minta was a key member of the Northern Lights 15-1’s team who was an Open level squad at USAV Nationals. At 6’3, Minta is a shutdown defender on the right side as a very physical blocker. Her strength is hard to match up with and can really take an outside out of their game.
Lauren Carter – Winterset (IA) – Central Iowa Select
Class of 2022 – Denver
Carter is one of the top setters in Iowa and has already committed to play at Denver, one of the top programs in the Summit League and a consistent NCAA Tournament contender. Not only is Carter one of the best when it comes to volleyball, but she is also a state qualifier in track and a star on the softball diamond as well. Volleyball is her sport and how she can get her feet in the right position to put up a hittable ball to her attackers is definitely something special to watch.
Wucherer (FAR RIGHT) celebrating with her Sting teammates.
Mckenna Wucherer – Brookfield Central (WI) – Milwaukee Sting
Class of 2022 – Minnesota
Wucherer is just one of those “Wow” players, where you watch her play and just say “Wow”. From turning on a ball on the line, a sharp crosscourt shot, and coming out of the middle to thump it on the ten foot line, there isn’t a shot she can’t hit – and with authority. Wucherer committed to Minnesota as an 8th grader and has been on the High Performance scene since she was 13 with Badger Region. A special player in all regards.
