With the high school season starting practices in a month, there will be some athletes who are coming back with something to prove and definitely looking to make an impact on the court in maybe a bigger way than they did in 2018.
Mackenzie Holzwart – Howards Grove
Holzwart will be part of the three headed monster that is the backrow of Howards Grove. A really gritty, solid all around athlete she will be joined in the backrow by Wisconsin commit in Saige Damrow and Dayton commit, Karissa Kaminski. Holzwart is solid in any spot in the backrow whether its in serve receive or taking pace off the ball. She will be key for Howards Grove in providing that solid first contact to keep their offense rolling.
Sam Miller – Waunakee
Carlee Doering of KimberlyMiller has quietly made her way up the ranks playing for Waunakee High School and Capital while recently committing to Augustana, a Division 2 school in the process of going D1 in Sioux Falls, SD. Miller ran a 6-2 last year and this upcoming season will be running the show for Waunakee who lost a talented Senior class, but still has the likes of Milla Malik, the Buffalo commit as a high point scoring outside.
Carlee Doering – Kimberly
Doering is steady, solid, and dependable for Kimberly out of the middle. She was also a mainstay for the FC Elite 17 Navy squad this past club season. Doering had a breakout Junior year, but unfortunately suffered a severe ankle injury in the sectional final which put her on crutches for the state tournament. Doering will be back for her Senior year as will a strong core of returners for the Papermakers
Alyssa Koska – Bay Port
Koska will be entering her Junior year for Bay Port and has always been on the varsity court as a steady, all around outside hitter. She will be a key part for the Pirates this season as an attacker, but with her serve receive and defense. A high IQ player who can look for the open shot, every team needs a type of player like this who knows how to make the smart play in a key situation. She had over 250 kills as a Sophomore and with the type of athletes on this Bay Port squad they will be a tough match for anyone this Fall.
Maggie Lawrynk – SPASH
Lawrynk is a really solid all around athlete for SPASH and will be one of the main setters this upcoming season. A member of Wisconsin Ice, Lawrynk can dish and also attack if needed, she will be looking for a big Senior season this fall.
Samantha Gray – Watertown
Gray is a major sparkplug for Watertown, she is a ferocious attacker and a solid defender. This team is comprised of a lot of athletes who are just really gritty and find a way to win. Gray will be heading into her Senior season after Watertown shocked plenty of opponents last year. They will once again be a team to watch and Gray will be looked to lead and score points in all six rotations.
Taylor Pagel – Wausau East
A definite hidden gem from the North that Winona State got a major steal with. Pagel is athletic, physical, and extremely dynamic as a middle who could play in multiple front row positions. This past club season she played on the Wisconsin Ice 18 National Team and gained valuable experience and exposure. She is one of three Class of 2020 athletes from Wisconsin heading to Winona State with libero, Rylee Vaughn of Lake Country and Sidney Paulson of West Bend West.
