Players change so much, not just with their skills, but some are changing what position they play, others are still growing, and after a full high school season combined with club a lot of progress can be made in a year. One trend that is pretty obvious is the improvement that is most obvious is the 15s to 16s year (that is not the case for everyone), but athletes just tend to really make that jump. Here are some athletes who really jumped on the radar and continued to climb.
Morgan Daugherty – Milwaukee Sting – Brookfield Central
Daugherty was high to begin with in the top 15, but she is currently a top five player in the Class of 2022 in Wisconsin and the top middle blocker. What is evident in her evolution as a player was her physical play at the net offensively and defensively. Being a part of Sting 15 Gold, playing and Open level schedule week in and out, she had to become that dominating force. Others saw her progression as well as her team advanced to the Gold Bracket of 15 Open at AAU Nationals where Daugherty took home All-American honors.
AmmeraalClaire Ammeraal – Capital Volleyball Academy – Madison La Follette
The first thing that jumps off the radar with Ammeraal is her versatility. She can set, swing, and do them all really well. A member of the Badger Region High Performance team, Ammeraal continued to impress all throughout the club season after getting on the radar at the Prep Dig Top 250 in December of 2018. Capital has really developed some strong all around setters who can play multiple positions.
Madisen Miller – FC Elite – Appleton North
What solidified Miller’s jump in the rankings was how she played at the Wisconsin Team Camp for Appleton North. This past club season she was on the FC Elite 16 Navy squad where she was playing an age group up, training with some top tier athletes and competing in open level tournaments. That type of competition day in and day out really elevated her game and at the Wisconsin Team Camp she was taking pace off some hard swings, covering well on tips and was giving her setters something to work with out of serve receive.
Riley Dahlquist – Milwaukee Sting – Sussex Hamilton
Dahlquist brings such an athletic game to the court where she can swing anywhere out of the front row. From being a middle to one of the pins, she will have a variety of ways to score points and make an impact defensively as well. Sussex Hamilton might be the most balanced team in the state and Dahlquist will fit right into that equation.
Madison Tolzman – Milwaukee Sting – Arrowhead
Tolzman had a really strong Wisconsin team camp as well on the pin. High IQ where she can swing hard or use the block to her advantage, she can get creative with how she is able to score points no matter what the block is against her. It’s not secret that Arrowhead will be a major threat in Division 1 this year and Tolzman will definitely find a way to make an impact on the court.
Van LannenBella Van Lannen – FC Elite – Appleton North
FC Elite 15 Navy was right up there as one of the top teams out of the Badger Region at the 15s level and was highly competitive at Northern Lights Qualifier defeating some top teams. Van Lannen primarily plays on the right side and has a big swing to go with it as well as a strong block. Long and athletic, she will continue to develop an all around game where she could attack out of the backrow or play on the outside as well.
Grace Holschuh – One Wisconsin – Luxemburg-Casco
Can flat out jump out of the gym, approaches and jumps like a deer. Holschuh spent this past club season in the middle where her hangtime and quickness was apparent and will likely move out to the pin. Her upside is way up there and with a strong high school program at LC, she is going to be dangerous with how she progresses.
