The MN Volleyball Coaches Association have weighed in with their top picks for 2A. While these are only predictions based on the popular vote, it sets the tone for the season for teams trying to live up to the rankings and others who will play the role of the underdog. There is always so much talent in this class and no team can ever be overlooked.
Class 2A:
1. Stewartville
2. North Branch
3. Concordia Academy
4. Belle Plaine
5. Marshall
6. Kasson Mantorville
7. Sauk Centre
8. Pequot Lakes
9. SW Christian
10. Watertown Mayer
There are a lot of the familiar names here. Keep in mind, many of these teams did well last year but graduated key players. This years junior and seniors will have have to perform to hold their positions in the rankings.
Stewartville will rely on the fire power of senior Kaitlyn Prodzinski. She is a dynamic player who has committed to play in college at Illinois State. At the net besides her will be 6’3”, junior, Erin Lamb. Both players have struggled with injuries in the past so if they stay healthy, it’s likely they would hold onto that top spot.
Marshall has seniors Mia Schiable (DS) and Paige Andries (MH). Their offense will rely heavily on Andries shoulders and she’s ready.
Kasson’s strength will be in their youth: Addison Bzoskie and Maddie Converse. Both have experience from their state-run last year. Senior, Emilee Terry will need the help of a different Suess this year. Last year she had Peyton Suess, who was a Ms.Baden volleyball candidate; now, her sister Mya Suess will hope to fill in.
Other top leaders include: Mackenzie Close (SW Christian), Mikayla Coops (Belle Plaine), and Paige Thibault (Watertown-Mayer).
Prediction: look for the talented Lake City Tigers to fight their way into the ranks early on. Last year they had a chance against Kasson; we know they will be hungry for a win.
