Here are some returning under the radar players to keep an eye on as we head into the start of the season. Note that not all CRC schools turned in under the radar players:
Giltner
Amanda Whisendand 5’6″ Senior: Amanda is a hard worker that is really ready for a breakout senior season. She has all the right tools and work ethic to have a big impact on the Hornets this season Head Coach Jeanie Goode said.
Bruning-Davenport-Shickley
Mariah Sliva Sophomore: She is looking to become a 6 rotation player this year. Last year she anchored the front row and has stepped up her passing this past spring.
Coach Kari Jo Alfs also noted that the Eagles have a lot of options to look at as far as filling in the remaining positions of her 2018 D-2 State Champion Team. Senior Jen Holtzen played one rotation as a front row right side last season each game. Kaylee Noel is the only other senior on the team for the Eagles and can provide a spark in the front row with her size.
Nebraska Lutheran
Amara Corwin 5’7″ Senior MB/OH: She had 38 kills this past fall and was low error on defense and serve receive. She also had 15 ace serves as well.
Cross County
Amanda Giannou 5’5″ Senior Setter: Amanda is a returning CRC Honorable Mention pick. She had 45 ace serves and 540 set assists for the Lady Cougars. Coach Autumn Capler said Amanda really came through and filled her role for the Cougars last season. She began out in a 6-2 but as the season progressed they switched to a 5-1. Her decision making and confidence really blossomed. Amanda is also very dependable at the service line with a 92.7% serve percentage.
Shelby-Rising City
Jordie Nekl 5’5″ Sophomore OH/DS/Libero: Jordie was a starter for us last year as a freshman Coach Mackenzi Kuhnel. She is a very experienced player. She got much better at making decisions, going on serving runs and being one of the top serve receive passers. Coach Kuhnel looks forward to her exploding into the fall season. She feels Jordie will use her knowledge and abilities in any position they feel fit.
Keep your eyes on these under the radar players as the season starts for the Crossroads Conference. They will be key to achieving the dream of winning the CRC title at the York City Auditorium in October and to continue dominance at the Nebraska State Tournament in November.
