Class A
#3-ranked Millard West swept Omaha Burke 25-17, 25-13, 25-6. Ella Hazen led Millard West with 10 kills and added six digs. Hannah Domandle added seven kills while Gabi Nordaker had three kills and five blocks and Sadie Millard had three kills and six blocks. Bridget Smith had 25 assists. For Omaha Burke, Amanda Wolf and Katie Stark each had three kills.
#10 Lincoln Southeast beat Lincoln High 25-12, 25-23, 25-21. Taylor Haywood led Lincoln High with eight kills.
Unranked Gretna knocked off #4 Millard North 25-23, 23-25, 26-24, 25-16.Gretna was led by 15 kills from Lydia Yost and 11 from Skylar McCune while Lauren Anderson had 41 assists and Kenedy Schaecher had 24 digs. Omaha recruit McKenna Ruch led the Mustangs with 22 kills and Eve Fountain added nine. Izzy Lukens had 42 assists and six kills and Lauren Maciejewski had four aces and a team-high 16 digs.
#8 Papillion-LaVista South got 11 kills, three aces and nine digs from Sophie Hendrix in a 25-10, 25-13, 25-14 win over Omaha Central. Ava LeGrand added five kills, two blocks and nine assists while Aliah Clarke had four kills, five blocks and three digs and Ashlyn Dierks had 15 assists and four digs. For Omaha Central, Anna Festersen and Peyton Preston each had four kills.
Class B
Top-ranked Waverly started the season with a 27-25, 25-12, 25-17 win over Class C1 #4 Lincoln Lutheran. Whitney Lauenstein had 10 kills for the Vikings and Abby Plouzek had eight kills and 2 1/2 blocks. Annika Evans had 29 assists, 11 digs and five kills. For Lincoln Lutheran, Wichita State recruit Marriah Buss had 14 kills and seven digs while Lexie Kreizel had 14 digs in the match and Paige Trunta had 16 assists.
#4 Norris swept Class C1 #1 Wahoo in an epic 27-25, 27-25 and beat Aurora 25-15, 25-14 in a triangular. Wahoo defeated Aurora 25-15, 25-16. Against Wahoo, Kalli Kroeker had eight kills and a block while Ella Waters had seven kills and nine digs. Maisie Boesieger had 20 assists and 10 digs and Maddie Clauss had 17 digs. Mya Larson led Wahoo with 16 kills, two aces and 10 digs while Kelsie Sears had six kills and 10 digs. Elle Glock finished with 28 assists, seven digs and four kills and Kendal Brigham had 15 digs.
In the win over Aurora, Waters had 11 kills and Kroeker had eight. Molly Ramsey had 11 digs and a kill. Kassidy Hudson had three kills to lead Aurora. In Wahoo’s win over Aurora, Larson had 20 kills and Sears had nine. Paxtyn Dummer led the Huskies with four kills.
#10 Lexington defeated McCook 21-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-23.
Unranked Gering knocked off #9 Alliance 13-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-19. Ellli Winkler had 11 kills for Gering while Zoee Smith had 18 digs and five aces and Macey Boggs had 21 assists, 7 1/2 blocks, four aces and two kills.
Class C1
Class C1 #2 St. Paul rolled to a 25-10, 25-13, 25-12 win over David City.
In a battle between two of the top teams in the class, #6 Columbus Scotus defeated #3 Kearney Catholic 11-25, 25-18, 25-18, 21-25, 15-9. Kearney Catholic setter Syd Connor did not play in the match and is likely out for a good chunk of time – possibly the whole season – after learning she has a fracture in one of her lower vertebrates a few days ago.
#5 Lincoln Christian went on the road and defeated Omaha Concordia 25-14, 25-15, 20-25, 25-11. Emily Otten had five kills for Omaha Concordia while Allie Wilson and Abby Kulus each had 15 digs.
#7 Syracuse rallied for a 11-25, 25-17, 22-25, 28-26, 15-7 win over Milford.
#8 Wayne defeated Class C2 #8 Ponca 25-6, 30-28, 25-16. Lauren Pick had 19 kills for the Blue Devils and Emily Armstrong added nine. Kiara Krusemark had 34 assists.
Southern Valley, ranked #9 in Class C1, swept Hi-Line 25-14, 25-8, 25-21.
#10 Hastings Adams Central started the season with a 25-17, 25-13, 25-12 win over Sandy Creek. Caitlyn Scott had 15 kills for Adams Central and Jessica Babcock had 11 to go with five ace serves. Leah Hatch led Sandy Creek with five kills.
Class C2
Top-ranked Grand Island Central Catholic held off #3 Superior to open the season with a 25-22, 25-23, 25-21 win. Kalynn Meyer had 23 kills, two blocks and five digs for Superior and Shayla Meyer had 17 kills, a block and 11 digs.
#4 Summerland (Ewing-Clearwater-Orchard) started 2-0 with sweeps of both Elkhorn Valley and West Holt.
#6 Mead rallied for a 21-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-23 win over Freeman.
Lutheran High Northeast – ranked #7 in C2, swept Elgin-Pope John, ranked #7 in Class D1, 25-20, 25-14, 25-23. Lexi Bode had four kills for Elgin-Pope John.
#9 Cross County got a sweep of Class D1 #9 Fullerton 25-23, 25-22, 25-21. Cortlyn Schaefer had 16 kills for Cross County and Erica Stratman had nine. Amanda Giannou had 26 assists.
#10 Stanton defeated West Point-Beemer 25-19, 25-22 and fell to Battle Creek 25-21, 25-18 in a triangular Thursday night. Kinley Pholman had a combined nine kills in the matches for Stanton and Ellie Locke had eight.
Class D1
#5 Hartington Cedar Catholic swept both Homer and Randolph in a triangular Thursday night.
Defending state champs and #10 Archbishop Bergan defeated Omaha Roncalli 25-16, 25-19, 25-12.
Class D2
Top-ranked Wynot swept Osmond 25-18, 25-8, 25-14 while #2-ranked BDS swept both Wilber-Clatonia and Palmyra on Thursday night.
Sutton defeated #5 Exeter-Milligan 25-17, 22-25, 25-18, 25-15.
#6 Humphrey St, Francis got nine kills from Caitilyn Jarosz in a 25-4, 25-10, 25-22 win over Osceola.
#7 Brady defeated Sandhills/Thedford 25-11, 25-18, 25-8.
#9 SEM fell to Gibbon 25-22, 21-25, 25-17, 25-18.
