Continue ReadingThe Class of 2021 has been in the middle of plenty of recruiting rule changes in the past few years from having to contact coaches through emails or messages via a club coach or director along with the unofficial visits to campus, and then going completely quiet this past May. Now, the restrictions are off and communication can resume in all forms. Minnesota has plenty of Division 1 talent each year and here are some that are still available from the Class of 2021.
Ava Moes – Lakeville South – Northern Lights
Moes is so strong, physical, and dynamic where she can play multiple front row positions. In 2018, she was a major impact for Lakeville South and their run to the state tournament run where the Cougars finished third. For the club season, Moes was dominant at the net offensively and defensively out of the middle. Her athleticism is what sets her apart along with her versatility to dominate at any position.
Sophie Jesewitz – Wayzata – MN Select
Jesewitz in position to serve receive.Jesewitz has really improved her all around game over the past year and at a long 6’3, she has a high contact point and the ability to really get above the net. While playing mostly on the outside, Jesewitz can also play on the right side really providing a blocking mismatch to the opposing outside. She will play a key piece for Wayzata’s 2019 season that will feature multiple Division 1 commits, and other top tier athletes. If they can serve receive and pass they will be very dangerous.
Erin Lamb – Stewartville – Northern Lights
One of the top athletes in the state as a standout in volleyball and basketball, Lamb really was able to show what she was capable of playing for the 16-1 squad at Northern Lights. She is so quick across the net, she can really close a block and with her wingspan, can get a touch on everything. Her Stewartville team will be a favorite to win it all in Class AA. Last year Lamb played out of the middle, but also played in the backrow too, just one example of how versatile she is.
Lauren Crowl – Eastview – Northern Lights
Such a mismatch on the right side, Crowl is really able to put up a strong block and come back with a heavy swing. With her in the front line along Lamb or Moes in the front row it provided quite the block on the right side. Crowl is one of the top left handed players in the state which creates a different dynamic from the pin. A heaving top spin swing just makes it tough for the defense to get a clean ball into system.
Jasmine Weidemann – Lakeville South – MN Select
Weidemann was able to set a 5-1 offense for Lakeville South last season where she led them to the final four with Moes by her side. Weidemann is always neutral with her hands which allows her to go either way with her sets as well as provide a variety of tempos. She makes for quite the duo with Teagan Starkey who is another setter for MN Select and Lakeville South .
Elizabeth Dille – Sartell-St. Joseph – Kandi Elite
Dille was playing up on the 17s last year and really showed what she could do as a six rotation outside. She is able to hit a variety of shots from the pin going down the line or sharp angle. With continued improvement to her backcourt game from a passing standpoint as well as attacking she will be heavily pursued by schools in the Northern Sun or Summit League.
Ryley Frye – Robbinsdale Armstrong – Northern Lights
Fallert with the pass.Frye is extremely quick and athletic, getting her hands to the ball and getting her team into system. Robbinsdale Armstrong is a team to keep an eye on this fall with Frye setting and Sophia Vogel and Kiya Durant attacking as key front row players.
Kira Fallert – Concordia Academy – Northern Lights
So steady in every rotation, Fallert can do it all from serve receive, passing, and attacking with a high IQ. Fallert is the type of player who can hurt the other side of the net with her efficiency. She is low error, creative with her shots, and knows how to take advantage of what the other side of the net is giving her. An All State player from 2018, she will be back along with her setter Brooke Weichbrodt for their Junior season.
Brooke Weichbrodt – Concordia Academy – Kokoro
Weichbrodt plays with such a high motor, she elevates her team to another level. This past club season she was really able to take the Kokoro 16s to some big victories where she can attack on the second contact and run a multidimensional offense. She made a great combo with Jadyn Garrison of East Ridge on the pin and will do the same with Kira Fallert this fall for Concordia Academy who will look to get back to the state tournament.
