Are these the only things I am watching? No. But heading into certain events there are some things that I will focus a little closer on. Either way, this is just an exciting weekend of volleyball where teams across the state get a chance to play against some of the best!
Kettle Moraine – I have not seen this team play live since the Charger Challenge last year, which I know they are much improved and have some new players. The Grocholski sisters will be ones to watch with Hailey and Grace. This squad actually has three sets of sisters on the team. I have seen a lot of these players play separately team on their club teams, but to see it all come together will be a lot of fun.
Waunakee – Milla Malik is the face of this team. With her spark, her energy, and not to mention her whip of an arm swing, she is the leader on this team and has the state tournament experience. But I’m interested in the rest of the cast who has led them to a 17-2 start. They will have a big match with Appleton North on Friday night and a chance to see Sun Prairie further into the weekend, which is sure to provide plenty of fireworks if that were to happen after they have traded going to the state tournament the past two season.
The Class of 2023 – We recently released our Class of 2023 Watch List, which is exactly what it means. A few incoming Freshmen who have caught our eye throughout the club and summer season. Who will be the new Freshman to make an impact this weekend? We spend a lot of time taking a look at new classes to provide accurate rankings and names to be listed. With 28 teams under one roof, we’ll be sure to get plenty of new names to talk about.
Division 2 Teams – Wisconsin Lutheran, Kettle Moraine Lutheran, Luxemburg-Casco, and Catholic Memorial. I think all of these teams have a chance to get to the state tournament. They may not be ready right now, but I know they have the pieces to make a really strong run. What does that look like right now? For many teams, the third tournament is when teams start to find their groove, their strong rotations and are solidifying spots. A couple of big wins by these teams could be a real catalyst for them the rest of the season.
What Team Can Serve Receive? To a common fan, this might be a boring thing to watch, it’s no dunk contest by any means, but in order to get to the big swings and offense that can click teams have to be strong with their first contact and sideout. Howards Grove may not be very tall, but I know they have a full batch who can serve receive and get the ball to the setter. Oconomowoc is another team that has the tools to pass the ball on point. But who else? Volleyball is a series of games with in a game. Who wins the serve and pass game this weekend?
