With top athletes all around the state, this is sure to be a class full of depth and athleticism. For the Class of 2022, they are still unable to communicate directly with college coaches until after June 15 of their Sophomore year. Plenty of these athletes are already on the radar with college coaches waiting to get the chance to start the process. Here is a closer look at the top ten.
1) Ava Brizard (Marian) – Ava’s raw emotion is so captivating to watch. Her energy makes every player around her better. She celebrates as much in practice as she does in a match. She is the best 6 rotation player in this class right now. Her powerful swings compliment her smooth play in the back row and in passing serve.
2) Maradith O’Gorman (Lakewood) – Maradith is a gifted lefty opposite that is the first recruit in this class to commit. She will be headed to Michigan State in the fall of 2022. Her blocking presence matches her up with the best outsides in the class.
3) Serena Nyambio (Country Day) – Nyambio may be the most explosive athlete in the class. Her 10’2 touch will only improve as her mechanics improve. Look for one of the big P5 schools to pick her up for the 2022 class.
4) Evelyn Doezema (Grand Rapids Christian) – Long, athletic, and 6’3 to top it off. She plays outside in club and plays middle in high school. Her versatility will be huge for her recruiting process.
5) Alyssa Borellis (Notre Dame Prep) -Borellis can do it all. She has played middle, outside, right side, back row, and can set. In baseball terms, she is the 5 tool prospect. Look for Aly to set and hit in high school and club over the next few years.
6) Tatum Casper (Marian) – Tatum plays some middle and outside in high school, but is mainly an outside in club. She has a prototypical arm swing and her 6 rotation ability has moved her into an elite recruit.
7) Kimani Johnson (Cass Tech) – Another athlete that will continue to wow coaches as she continues to learn the game. Kimani plays on the right side for club, but will see some outside attacking at Cass Tech. Look for this athlete to move up in the ranks as she continues to develop.
8) Sarah Sylvester (Marian) – Maybe the best pure middle in the class. She also keeps getting better and better each time we see her. If we had a ranking last year at this time, she might have barely cracked the top 20. She is now a bonified top 10 kids and one of the best middles in the state.
9) Brooklyn Conner (Forest Hills Central) – Another strong middle in the class. She has big college potential and she continues to grow and develop.
10) Sydney Tomlak (Rochester Stoney Creek) – “Squid” is a steady force for Stoney Creek. Her ability to play 6 rotations and terminate with an arsenal of shots, makes her stand out over some other outsides in the class.
