Charger Challenge – All “Unsung” Team
There was plenty of star power at the Charger Challenge. Going into the weekend there were multiple college commits across all levels that made their presence known, but it was the big-time play of role players that made a big splash onto the scene. New names were making big digs, serves in key moments, the clutch set, and scoring points where their team needed it the most. Who are the members of the “Unsung” Team, the role playing heroes, at the Charger Rally?
Jalie Shemanski – DSHA
Jalie ShemanskiI have to admit, I may have said, “Jade Shemanski” on Twitter for the 5’1 libero from DSHA – my apologies. Shemanski gets a touch on everything, she is not only solid on the first contact, but reads when others make the first contact and really anticipates the next touch. DSHA is an extremely efficient team, which comes from solid passing where Shemanski leads the way. The Dashers had tough losses to Arrowhead and River Falls, but had wins over Kettle Moraine and Brookfield Central.
Lizzy Danelski – Oconomowoc
Oconomowoc had four Division 1 commits on their team, with a good chance of more to come, but in crunch time against Howards Grove in the semifinals and River Falls in the finals, Lizzy Danelski had some big kills out of the middle. Well trained, and high IQ, Danelski knows how to go for the deep corner for Ocon. With the blockers keying on setter Tayler Alden Tayler Alden 6'0" | S Oconomowoc | 2020 State WI to attack and Maleah Howe Maleah Howe OH Oconomowoc | 2022 State #190 Nation WI and Kaitlyn Bingham Kaitlyn Bingham 5'7" | OH Oconomowoc | 2021 State WI on the pin, Danelski and her counterpart Haley Koch Haley Koch MB Oconomowoc | 2022 State WI are able to score points.
Abby Doerre – River Falls
Doerre is the libero for River Falls on a Senior dominated team. In her first year of wearing the libero jersey, Doerre has owned the backcourt with her ability to put a clean first contact in system as well as put pressure on the defense from the service line. River Falls is improving every time they step on the court, especially with the return of setter Maddi Kealy Maddi Kealy 5'10" | S River Falls | 2020 State WI who was sidelined with an injury the first month of the season.
Mackenzie Holzwart Mackenzie Holzwart 5'4" | DS/L Howards Grove | 2021 State WI – Howard Grove
Solid all around athlete for HG, Holzwart has found success in multiple sports. With Howards Grove down with a couple injuries, the backrow play of Holzwart to help get the Tigers in system was incredibly key. After an opening loss to Waterloo, the Tigers went on a roll defeating the likes of D1 powers of Kettle Moraine, Sun Prairie, and Sussex Hamilton.
Carlee Doering Carlee Doering 5'11" | MB Kimberly | 2020 State WI – Kimberly
[player_tooltip player_id="80192" first="Carlee" last="Doering"]Kimberly has a solid core of Seniors who have plenty of experience and are all contributing in different ways for the Papermakers. In the quarterfinals of the Gold bracket, Kimberly faced their conference rival Appleton North for the third time this year (with the potential to play each other three more times). Doering may has a knack for getting in position to block and score points on her own. With quick, lateral movements, Doering is smart when reading the setter and creating a mismatch for the opposite side of the net.
Rebecca Siedenburg Rebecca Siedenburg S Kettle Moraine | 2022 State WI – Kettle Moraine (Title Photo)
Kettle Moraine made a major statement this weekend with a key win over conference rival Arrowhead. With a lineup with multiple sisters and point scorers, it was Rebecca Siedenburg Rebecca Siedenburg S Kettle Moraine | 2022 State WI setting who was able to dish and distribute with a variety of tempos. The Lasers were definitely a team that had a few question marks heading into the weekend, but after some big wins, they were able to show the rest of the field how big of the threat they will be the rest of the season.
Brooke Bolwerk Brooke Bolwerk 5'6" | S Appleton North | 2021 State WI – Appleton North
Bolwerk is one part of the solid setting duo for North who had to fight and claw their way for every win this weekend. Bolwerk brings a steady presence to the court where she is cool, calm, and collected in tight situations. A great feel and savvy for the game, Bolwerk’s consistency puts the ball on point for her hitters to terminate.
