Checking In On The College Kids: Former Wisconsin Preps Have Huge Weekend!
What a weekend for Wisconsin volleyball! Between Wisconsin, Marquette, Green Bay, and UW-Milwaukee they have an overall record of 12-0. With plenty of homegrown talent, the success of these squads comes at no surprise, especially to the former high school and club coaches who have been working with these athletes through the ranks of their youth days!
UW-Milwaukee started their season with a 3-0 record and some of their top athletes from their backyard. Jessica Grabowski who prepped at Greendale was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Bruiser Showcase in Nashville with 51 total digs over the weekend. Ari Miller, a Freshman from Kettle Moraine Lutheran was named MVP of the tournament where she had 26 skill hitting over .250.
Green Bay hosted its own invite with Northeastern, Fresno State, Ohio, and Indiana State, taking all four matches. Maddie Yoss, who won two state titles at DSHA is in her final year as a Phoenix. This past weekend she just passed the 4,000 assist mark for her career….4,000 and a whole season to go! .
Wisconsin started with two wins in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge without dropping a set. The Badgers will be hosting Marquette this week who is coming off a big upset at BYU.
Marquette is coming off a big win by defeating 9th ranked BYU. Allie Barber, the Cedarburg alum who has already cemented her name in some of the top statistical categories for Marquette had 19 kills in the win. Neenah alum, Hope Werch chipped in 11 kills as well.
Other Wisconsin Preps Having Big Weekends
Loyola-Chicago has been building quite the pipeline to Wisconsin with multiple athletes filling up the roster for the Ramblers. Heather Kocken, a West De Pere alum had a big match in their 3-2 win over North Dakota State tallying 17 kills. In a 3-2 loss to Toledo, Burlington alum Quinn Spieker had 20 kills.
Taking a look at Loyola in Maryland, Abby Hamilton, a former Hartford Union athlete had 17 kills in a 3-2 over Furman.
Corinne Meglic, who prepped at Notre Dame Academy in Green Bay had 51 assists in Samford’s upset win over #24 Arizona.
Dru Kuck, Sheboygan North prep, saw time at libero for Kansas State this weekend with two double-digit dig performances.
Mia Grunze had three performances wth double-digit kills for Ohio State. The Waterford alum had 30 kills, hitting .343 in a 3-2 loss against Texas Tech.
