Continue ReadingThe Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association has updated their weekly poll for the top 10 in each class. Powerhouse, Eagan ‘ last=”]’ last=”], managed to keep the top seed for AAA. But we saw some movement in the other two classes. In AA North Branch knocked out Stewartville, likewise, Minneota edge out Kenyon-Wanamingo in A.
Here’s a breakdown of how rankings change. Teams are awarded point based on their play for the week (W/L). Coaches who are part of the association also vote. Simple enough; so, who is on the the teams that overtook the top seed and how did they do it?
AA – Northbranch
- Points: Initially ranked second, this team didn’t have to do much to go up. They had an excellent start to their season:beating Forest Lake and St Francis (both in three, quick sets.) This earned them 215 points vs Stewartvilles 208 points. Their record is now, 4-0. Northbranch received six first place votes. However, many still believe Stewartville is the best, collecting 7 first place votes. They will have to keep winning if they hope to hold their place on top.
- 8 Note-worthy players: It takes more than the 6 are “always” on the court to earn a first place spot. Here are their 8 player that are essential to their success.

A – Minneota
- Points: This young Minneota team, had a busy last week with wins against Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunberg, Lac Qui Parle Valley, Burnsville, St. Michael Albertville, River Falls (WI), and Champlin Park. This was a great start for them and shows a lot of talent to take down Champlin park in two close sets. Their only loss was to Northfield. They scored one point more than Kenyon-Wanamingo. KW only had one match vs. Pine Island.
