Among the top players, there were plenty who had swings that you could hear the power behind. Many athletes who are committed to top college volleyball programs as well as others who will soon be on the college hardcourts. Here are just a few of the athletes who provided booming swings.
Maddy Hornyak – Lakeville North
Junior
Hornyak brings the thunder for Lakeville North. With the graduation of Elizabeth Juhnke who is now a starter for South Dakota, Hornyak has come in and has been a big time scorer in the front and back row. An explosive approach and a hard swing, she is such an exciting player to watch. Only a Junior, Hornyak is definitely one to keep on the rise throughout her career at North as they work their way to get back to the state tournament.

Jordan Stalpes – Champlin Park
Senior – Committed to Omaha
Staples had a big year as a Junior where she was named to the all tournament team as Champlin Park took the crown in Class AAA. Back for her Senior year, Stalpes just seems to be jumping a little higher and is hitting the ball harder. A high IQ player, solid in all six rotations, she knows where the open spot is on the court and is able to use all of her shots to get points on the board. She is one of the top kill leaders in Minnesota.
Mallory Heyer – Chaska
Sophomore
Heyer was a huge miss for us on the Class of 2022 rankings. So versatile, high contact point, and really dangerous from the outside. Chaska has some youth on their squad that will be fun to watch over the next couple years. Athletic and very powerful, Heyer leads the way for Chaska this year and two more years to come.
Mikala Henderson – STMA (Title Photo)
Senior
Just an electric player to watch. Henderson plays with intensity, energy, and emotion to get her team fired up after a big swing. Following a big swing, she knows exactly where to tip to the open spot as well. She had been a go to player her whole career at STMA and is really flying high for her Senior year.
Kali Wolf – Waconia
Senior – Committed to New Mexico
There has been a Wolf in the Waconia lineup for quite some time. Kali’s older sisters (Jessica and Taylor) went on to star at Green Bay, playing in the NCAA Tournament. Kali will continue her volleyball and academic career at New Mexico and will be bringing a heavy arm with her. She can turn on a line or go sharp cross, being incredibly dynamic all the way around.

Rachel Wieber – Northfield
Junior
The first time watching Wieber attack was from the backrow with a big approach and arm swing where she can really snap to put plenty of pace on the ball. Northfield has plenty of big swings with a lethal attack all the way around. Their size and athleticism are going to be a big problem for teams. They were able to take the title over Wayzata Saturday afternoon going 5-0 on the weekend.

Ava Moes – Lakeville South
Junior
Moes can swing out of the middle or either pin as well as play backrow. Seeing her on the right side swing away is really where she can terminate. At 6’3, she presents a major mismatch with her ability to move around to various spots on the net to find the open spot on the court. Moes is joined by another Moes on the team with her sister Emily who will be a talented Freshman to watch on the pin.
Abby Hennen – Minneota
Junior
Minneota has quite a few athletes who can really put a ball to the floor, but Hennen is one out of the middle who is extremely aggressive with her arm. She is under control yet aggressive which makes for a lethal combination. Minneota finished 5th overall with their only loss to Northfield (which was their only loss last year enroute to a state title).
Kate Long – Wayzata
Senior
Long is just one of the many weapons on the Wayzata roster. A Senior outside who can really hammer, Long is still uncommitted as to where she will play college volleyball. She would be a solid pick up with her ability to score points as well as knowing what it takes to be part of success and a winning culture.
