These five outside hitters are weapon-loaded and ready to lead their teams to better places before they go on and play in college. Here are currently what we think at PrepDig as the current top five senior outside hitters.
Player, Ht, Pos, School, Club Team, College
Taylor Landfair, 6’5, OH, Plainfield Central, Sports Performance VBC, Minnesota
She is the definitely one of, if not the best player with the best swing. Landfair is able to put down the ball anywhere on the court. The 2018 -19 Gatorade Illinois Player of the Year had 515 kills 249 digs a 0.467 kill percentage and a 0.341 hitting percentage. Landfair singlehandedly keeps her team in the match with her stellar hitting and solid defensive skills.
Sophia Gregus, 6’1, OH, Benet Academy, Adversity VBC, Illinois
Despite having back surgery and missing half of the season last year, Gregus is happy and healthy, playing at full speed. She is just one of the reasons that Benet is the team to beat for the state title this year. Having said that, offensively, Gregus is the main reason. With the ability to be a weapon in both the front and back row, Gregus brings an intensity with her play as well as an assured confidence in her game.
Natalie Chizzo, 6’3 , OH, Oak Park River Forest, Adversity VBC, Northwestern 38
I like her style. Chizzo plays with a cool demeanor on the court but wants every ball. She has a solid arm swing and ball placement with the ability to move the ball around the block. Quick arm swing but not the quickest, when it to comes to kill placement, her accuracy is better than most.
Faith Johnson, 5’11, OH, Neuqua Valley, 1st Alliance VBC, Akron
Slightly undersized for an outside hitter at the NCAA Division I level, Johnson hits the ball hard! She plays with a tenacity that not many other players have. She is a competitor and will definitely take her skills to the next level, playing at the University of Akron.
Sydney Hummert, 6’0, OH, Quincy Notre Dame, SIUE
A player that hammers the ball, Hummert makes Quincy Notre Dame a contender in 2019. She is not a very vocal player, but is growing into a leadership role this season. In 2018, She had 381 kills, 242 digs and 45 aces in 38 games through 38 games. Looked at by many programs, Hummert is taking her talent to SIUE for her collegiate career.
