In Class A, Papillion-LaVista and Elkhorn South are still the teams to beat. Now, it’s not that neither can be upset, given the depth of Class A this season, but the two have clearly established themselves as the most consistently superior teams. Papio is still undefeated and Elkhorn South’s only two losses are to Papio in five sets and to the top team in Iowa – Cedar Falls – in three sets this past weekend in tournament play.
Millard West slips down a few spots after its sixth-place finish in the Millard North Invitational and Bellevue West comes in at #10 after nearly upsetting both Gretna and Elkhorn South this season. Lincoln Southwest – the only team to peat Lincoln Pius X – and Papillion-LaVista South are just outside the rankings.
In Class B, Waverly continues to roll and the real question becomes what will Skutt look like when Lindsay Krause is back and how long will it take for her to be back in the line-up after playing for Team USA in Egypt up until this weekend. Best guess is that she might be available for Skutt’s Sept. 24 match at Omaha Mercy, which the Skyhawks really wouldn’t need her for, anyways. She should definitely be ready – I would think – by the time Skutt hosts Ankeny Centennial of Iowa and St. Teresa’s Academy of Missouri in a triangular on Sept. 28.
Ashalnd-Greenwood’s shocking sweep of Lincoln Lutheran last week combined with Wayne’s big win over Columbus Scotus shuffles the C1 rankings. As usual, C1 is shaping up to be a very deep class, with closer to 13 or 14 teams deserving of being in the top 10.
Superior was upset by Fillmore Central in Class C2, which dropped the Wildcats a couple spots and Arcadia/Loup City cracks the top 10.
Diller-Odell (D1) and Wynot (D2) continue to be the leaders of their respective classes.
