With its 3-1 win at home over former Class C2 #1 Grand Island Central Catholic, Hastings St. Cecilia has moved to the top of the rankings in that class. It wasn’t a big leap as the Hawkettes were #2 heading into the match and the two teams have simply switched spots in the rankings. The two teams have positioned themselves as the clear two best squads in the class, with Grand Island CC having defeated #3 Superior earlier this season.
Thayer Central also shakes things up in Class C2, going from unranked to #4 after starting the season 5-0. One of the Thayer Central wins was a 2-1 victory over Class C1 #5 Lincoln Christian and that also happens to be the only set Thayer Central has dropped in the season.
No major changes in Class A, B or C1. As case could be made for Lincoln Southwest to join the top 10 with its 2-1 record and its win over Lincoln Pius X, nut its brutal loss to Millard North on the same night makes it hard to justify. Grand Island Northwest jumps back into the Class B rankings at the #7 spot and Ogallala and Columbus Lakeview make an appearance in the Class C1 rankings.
Some of the top matches this week include Lincoln Pius X at Papillion-LaVista South, Wahoo at Platteview and Falls City Sacred Heart at Diller-Odell on Tuesday. Thursday includes a match between Class A #1 Papillion-LaVista and #2 Elkhorn South while Class C2 #3 Superior takes on Class D2 #2 BDS that night as well.
On Saturday, perhaps the best tournament of the year takes place at Millard North, featuring Elkhorn South, Millard West, Millard South, Millard North, Omaha Duchesne, Skutt Catholic, Omaha Concordia and a pair of out-of-state powers in Cedar Falls (Iowa) and St. James Academy (Kansas).
