Waverly improved to 11-0 on the season with the win while Norris dropped to 11-2 with both of its losses coming to Waverly in the past four days.
Norris led only once in the first two sets – briefly holding a 2-1 lead in the first – as the Vikings cruised to a 2-0 lead. It certainly looked like the third set would be more of the same as the Vikings scored the first five points and eventually held a 7-2 advantage after consecutive kills from Lauenstein – who finished the match with 19 kills.
Norris, however, kept chipping away at the lead and then used a 7-1 run midway through the set to tie the score at 17-17 after a pair of ace serves from Paige Wilkinson. A service error and kill from Waverly’s Mollie Grosshans gave Waverly the lead back at 19-17, but Norris scored the next three points on two kills from Ella Waters and one from Kalli Kroeker to take its first lead of the set at 21-20.
A couple Norris attack errors and kills from Atley Carey and Bailey Jeffers, though, got Waverly a pair of set points at 24-22, but Waverly had attack errors on each of the next two rallies which tied the score at 24-24. Another Lauenstein kill got Waverly its third match point at 25-24, but Wilkinson got a huge block for Norris to tie the score again at 25.
After a Lauenstein kill gave Waverly its fourth match point at 26-25, the Vikings were able to finish the match on a block from Grosshans and Abby Plouzek to take the set 27-25.
After Lauenstein’s 19 kills, Jeffers finished with nine for the Vikings and Carey had eight. Kelsey Perrotto had three ace serves and 14 digs while Annika Evans had 34 assists and 13 digs. Karsen VanScoy added 13 digs as well.
For Norris, Waters led the way with nine kills while Brianna Stai had six. Maisie Boesiger finished the match with 24 assists and three kills and Molly Ramsey had 12 digs.
