Prep Dig will be in attendance Saturday taking a look at some of these top up and coming athletes as well as new teams who will be on the rise.
Jordan Berglin – Pewaukee
Berglin will be one of the more explosive pins at this tournament with her aggressive approach and high flying ability. Long, athletic, and a big jumper – Berglin has the ability to take over a match and has been key in the strong start for the Pirates.
Katie GundKatie Gund – Pewaukee
Having someone who can set and swing is such an x-factor for any team. Gund is a solid all-around athlete who has the ability to set and attack, she can defend to as well as be a presence at the net blocking. Pewaukee is off to a 15-1 start and will be looking to keep the momentum rolling.
Future Teammates Committed to Michigan Tech
Katherine Walch – Notre Dame
Walch is the top libero in the FRCC and one of the key leaders for Notre Dame who has a roster loaded with underclassmen. From communicating on the court, on point in serve receive, and able to keep the ball alive at all costs keeps the energy thriving for the Tritons.
Lauren Richards – Appleton West
Richards will be joining Walch at Michigan Tech as a middle who can also play on either pin. A big jumper with a quick arm swing allows for Richards to terminate on a quick tempo or from the pin – a major blocking presence as well.
Brooke ClementBrooke Clement – Bay Port
Alyssa Koska – Bay Port
These two are going to be incredibly exciting to watch with their athleticism and how dynamic they are on the outside. Clement’s athleticism is tough to top – with an active arm and the ability to hit at different angles, Clement will be fun to watch to go up against some of the top teams in the tournament (which Bay Port is definitely among the top). Koska has the IQ with her swing to be creative in finding ways to score points. The two may have similar styles, but they are definitely producing points for BP.
Paige Wicklund – Mosinee
Mosinee is returning from a state tournament appearance in 2018 and are off to an 18-5 start and are undefeated in conference play. Wicklund can attack from multiple positions and is leading the way. Mosinee will be the top D2 team in this tournament along with Notre Dame, but will get some chances to compete against some solid D1 competition.
Maddy DokkenMaddy Dokken – SPASH
Dokken has been on the Prep Dig radar from the beginning, showing great promise as an outside hitter playing for Wisconsin Ice. Fast forward to her Senior year and the UW-Parkside commit is continuing to score points from the pin. SPASH had a strong 2018 and have followed it up with a 21-5 start despite losing a handful to graduation. Dokken has been leading the way and wlll look to make a deep post season run.
Monika Stevens – Little Chute
Little Chute is another team that lost a lot of points from last year with the graduation of Hannah Vanden Berg who is now at Marquette. However, some Freshman and other underclassmen have come in making a big impact in their first month of high school. Stevens is a strong and athletic middle who is leading her team in blocks and is hitting .322 out of the middle for the Mustangs who are 15-7.
