Continue ReadingAs the state tournament recently capped a thrilling high school season, the awards next follow as incredible reminders of all the highly skilled, competitive, and exciting individual talent that put in the work and executed for their teams. As many athletes were named to all-state first teams and honorable mention across all three classifications, here is a list of the non-seniors that we volleyball fans are excited to get to see again next year.
CLASS AAA
1st Team
- Lauren Crowl Lauren Crowl 6'4" | RS Eastview | 2021 State MN – 2021 | OH/RS | Eastview: Her athleticism in the front row creates an imposing offensive threat for opponents. She terminates and defends as well as anyone in this class.
- Kennedi Orr Kennedi Orr 6'0" | S Eagan | 2021 State MN – 2021 | S/RS | Eagan ‘ last=”]’ last=”]: The player of the year for many, Orr is now a household name for MN volleyball fans given her international experience and visibility as the best player for one of the most highly touted programs. She led Eagan ‘ last=”]’ last=”] back to the state championship match, earning a runner-up finish this season.
- Emma Torstenson Emma Torstenson 5'11" | DS/L Northfield | 2021 State MN – 2021 | L | Northfield: One of the best liberos in the Midwest region, Torstenson was a huge reason Northfield’s 2019 journey was among class AAA’s upper echelon often mentioned as a favorite in conversations about the state tournament. Her ball control and defensive range are fun to watch.
Honorable Mention
- Elizabeth Dille Elizabeth Dille 5'11" | OH Sartell-St. Josephs | 2021 State MN – 2021 | OH | Sartell: Stock riser given her athleticism and dynamic point scoring ability. Helped carry Sartell through a successful 2019 campaign with her explosiveness and attacking range.
- Lauren Galvin Lauren Galvin 6'0" | OH East Ridge | 2021 State MN – 2021 | OH | East Ridge: Galvin’s experience is such a huge asset to her team given the contributions last year leading into being the team’s go-to in 2019. The Raptors were among the best in class AAA, finishing ranked #4, largely due to the work that Galvin does for her team.
- Maddy Hornyak – 2021 | OH | Lakeville North: Stock riser given her workload and relentless attacking mindset for the Panthers. She helped this young team advance to the state tournament and win the consolation bracket on the final day.
- Sophie Jesewitz Sophie Jesewitz 6'3" | OH Wayzata | 2022 State MN – 2021 | OH | Wayzata: One of the very capable arms for Wayzata that led them to the state title this season. An early season idea quickly turned into Wayzata as a frontrunner for the crown, in which the final match saw Jesewitz lead her team with 25 kills on the biggest stage.
- Megan Reilly Megan Reilly 6'0" | OH Northfield | 2021 State MN – 2021 | OH | Northfield: Stock riser in that over the course of the season Reilly emerged as Northfield’s most reliable offensive threat, among a team that had all the pieces to compete for the title. A sectional upset saw their season end early but this Northfield squad will bring back several key pieces, led by Reilly and her arm.
CLASS AA
1st Team
- Kira Fallert Kira Fallert 5'11" | OH Concordia Academy | 2021 State MN – 2021 | OH | Concordia Academy: The best six-rotation athlete in the 2021 class, Fallert did it all for her team that saw them fall just short of a state title match opportunity. She knows how to score and has a great court awareness and mobility to deliver the ball off of her platform. Concordia ended the season with a 4th place finish at state.
- Erin Lamb Erin Lamb 6'3" | MB Stewartville | 2021 State MN – 2021 | MH | Stewartville: One of the most athletic and dynamic athletes in the state regardless of class. Lamb helped lead Stewartville to the state title with great arm authority and as a big defensive presence.
- Brooke Weichbrodt Brooke Weichbrodt 5'10" | S Concordia Academy | 2021 State MN – 2021 | S | Concordia Academy: One of the state’s best regarding offensive leadership and distribution. She is steady in movement and very competitive in her play that helped lead her team to a semifinal appearance and a near berth into the title match.
Honorable Mention
- Jaidyn Brower Jaidyn Brower 5'8" | S Stewartville | 2021 State MN – 2021 | S | Stewartville: Led one of class AA’s most dynamic offenses to the state title by involving her corps of attackers in all the right ways throughout the season. Brower is confident and competitive and will have Stewartville in the mix again next season.
- Estelle Haugen Estelle Haugen 6'1" | OH Southwest Christian | 2022 State #164 Nation MN – 2022 | OH | Southwest Christian: An offensive leader for a team that had some big moments throughout the season. One of three sophomores to be recognized among the all-state honorees.
- Ashlyn Olson Ashlyn Olson 6'1" | RS New London-Spicer | 2021 State MN – 2021 | OH | New London-Spicer: Stock riser that saw NLS among the conversation for a deep postseason run. She consistently found a way to get it done on the offensive side that made NLS very difficult to defend. NLS finished the season ranked #8.
- Paige Thibault Paige Thibault 5'7" | DS/L Watertown-Mayer | 2021 State MN – 2021 | OH | Watertown-Mayer: Her team ended the season ranked #7, advancing to the final day of the season where they came up short in the consolation match. Led her team offensively as a very reliable point scorer.
CLASS A
1st Team
- Kinsey Cronin Kinsey Cronin 5'11" | MB Medford | 2021 State MN – 2021 | MH | Medford: Stock riser as a primary offensive option for Medford during a season of high expectations following 2018’s sudden emergence among the state’s elite. Also great on the defensive side. Medford finished 3rd at state this season.
- Abby Hennen Abby Hennen 5'7" | OH Minneota | 2021 State MN – 2021 | OH | Minneota: Stock riser for her steady contributions all season as one of Minneota’s leading point scorers and defenders that earned them another state title.
- Kenidi McCabe Kenidi McCabe 5'4" | S Mabel-Canton | 2021 State MN – 2021 | OH/S | Mabel-Canton: A staple for this team, McCabe again provided a lot throughout the season that saw her team finish the season ranked #6 in the final poll.
- Toryn Richards Toryn Richards 5'11" | OH Waterville-Elysian-Morristown | 2021 State MN – 2021 | OH | Waterville-Elysian-Morristown: Stock riser with her ability to move the ball around and terminate. She can score from multiple attack points and a variety of tempos and contributes a lot as one of the better six-rotation athletes in this class.
- Natalee Rolbiecki Natalee Rolbiecki 5'10" | OH Minneota | 2022 State MN – 2022 | OH | Minneota: One of only three sophomores earning all-state honors, Rolbiecki joined Hennen in leading Minneota to another state title. She is a veteran for this squad and will have them in the hunt again next season.
- Claire Vekich Claire Vekich 5'10" | MB Greenway | 2021 State MN – 2021 | MH | Greenway: Stock riser in helping lead Greenway to the state tournament and a consolation bracket win on the final day.
- Lilly Wachholz Lilly Wachholz 6'2" | MB Mayer Lutheran | 2022 State #42 Nation MN – 2022 | RS/OH | Mayer Lutheran: A prolific point scorer in the class of 2022, Wachholz often led the Crusaders in kills while providing a pin dimension that was very difficult to defend.
Honorable Mention
- Ellie Ready Ellie Ready 5'6" | S Waterville-Elysian-Morristown | 2021 State MN – 2021 | S | Waterville-Elysian-Morristown: Stock riser as WEM’s floor general, helping WEM to the state tournament where they earned a runner-up finish.
