#1 seed Hastings St. Cecelia (34-4) Vs #3 seed Grand Island Central Catholic (28-5)

Squaring off for the fourth time this season, with #1 seed Hastings St. Cecelia (34-4) winning the first three, #3 seed Grand Island Central Catholic (28-5) won the last meeting, 26-24, 25-22, 25-15, to claim the schools’ 10th state championship.

The historied programs have been in the state title game 29 times between them, but never playing against each other.  GICC Coach Sharon Zavala in her 45th season with a record of 1064-207, will add the 2019 championship trophy to her case along with 9 other championships and 9 runners-up. Hastings St. Cecelia Coach Alan VanCura in his 42nd season holds a record of 886-267, 7 champions, 3 runners-up.

Both teams mentally tough, fundamentally sound and with the skill to make this game one for the record books.

The Crusaders won from the service line with 9 aces, with a plethora of them coming from Lauryn Willman, College of St. Mary’s recruit, throughout the state tournament. Although with 8 service errors, the Crusders continued to cause serve receive woes for Hastings St. Cecelia.
