A look at the first four matches in the 2019 KHSAA Volleyball State Tournament follows.
Greenwood 3, Henderson County 0: Greenwood shut out Henderson County 3-0 to advance in the KHSAA Volleyball State Tournament.
The champion out of the 5th Region, Greenwood prevailed 25-11, 25-18, 25-13.
Annee Lasley and Katie Howard posted 12 kills apiece as Greenwood won.
Leading Greenwood in a pair of key categories, Meg Gore offered up 27 asssts and 12 digs.
Brooke Springer landed six kills for Henderson County in the season-ending setback.
North Oldham 3, Floyd Central 0: North Oldham knocked out its opening round opponent in the KHSAA Volleyball State Tournament, blanking 15th Region champion Floyd Central 3-0.
The title winner from the 8th Region, North Oldham won 25-12, 25-11, 25-8.
Addison Foote delivered 22 kills to lead North Oldham to the win. Following Foote in the pivotal category, Emily Goodin registered nine kills.
Key to North Oldham’s success in the opening round match, Brie Postema pushed out 38 assists.
Allyson Stumbo recorded six kills for Floyd Central in the season-ending loss.
Assumption 3, Breathitt County 0: Top-ranked Assumption cruised in the opening round of the KHSAA Volleyball State Tournament, blanking 14th Region champion Breathitt County 3-0.
Dominant Assumption, the back-to-back state champion, won 25-1, 25-6, 25-3.
Natalie Kirzinger helped to lead Assumption, providing a match-high seven kills. Makena Walker added six kills, Rylee Rader five kills and Savannah Neal four kills for the Rockets.
Another leading performer, Alyssa Eaton, distributed 16 assists as part of Assumption’s victory.
The Rockets recorded 25 aces in what was quite possibly the most dominant single match performance in state history.
Mercy 3, Elizabethtown 0: Title contender Mercy shut out upset-minded Elizabethtown 3-0 in the opening round of the KHSAA Volleyball State Tournament on Friday.
The Jaguars won 25-10, 25-10, 25-20.
Allison Holloway recorded 13 kills to lead Mercy to the win. Following Holloway, Caitlin Carpenter and Fallan Lanham posted nine kills and eight kills, respectively.
Continuing to excel for the Jaguars, Elena Scott recorded 29 assists.
