This group has been in high school for just over two months, but they’ve already accomplished what most high school players dream of which is making it to the state tournament. Not only being part of the team, but being a really strong contributor along the way. Sometimes ignorance is bliss when players who are young find early success. Either way, these 14 and maybe 15-year-olds are going to be competing on the big stage this weekend and having a big impact!
Saige Damrow – Howards Grove
Damrow will soon be a volleyball household name in Wisconsin. The top player in the Class of 2023 has already committed to Wisconsin to play her college volleyball. For Howards Grove this season, Damrow has been playing on the outside, racking up 152 kills and nearly 300 digs. She has been a key member of FC Elite the past two club seasons playing up two age groups. She is heading to Wisconsin as a libero and is joined by another Division 1 commit for HG in Karissa Kaminski who is on the outside, but will head to Dayton as a libero.
Karissa “KC” Fortune – Appleton North
Fortune celebrating for Appleton NorthFortune has been on the outside for Appleton North all season. The 6’1 Freshman is incredibly efficient, playing well beyond her years on the pin. With 172 kills and hitting over .200, Fortune has been a consistent force for the Lightning. Fortune comes from a family of top athletes with her oldest sister, Abby currently playing volleyball at Northern Michigan and sister, Christy heading to McKendree, an NCAA Division 2 school in Illinois to play basketball.
Cordelia Kearns – Oconomowoc
Oconomowoc had a couple of Freshmen on the big stage last year in Haley Koch and Maleah Howe where all they did was make it to the state title match, gaining valuable experience. Kearns will be much the same for the Raccoons where she averages nearly two kills per set and has over 30 total blocks on the season. She has been a big contributor on the right side but has versatility where she can contribute in multiple ways.
Grace Grocholski – Kettle Moraine
Grocholski is one part of the Grocholski sisters, with her older sister, Grace playing middle for Kettle Moraine. Grace has over 300 kills on the year and is an extremely athletic and physical player, being key for the Lasers all season. She not only is a standout on the volleyball court, but will also be one to watch on the basketball hardwood as well.
Sydney Ludvigsen – Union Grove
Union Grove has been on a tear all season with two big Senior contributors in setter, Karlee Lois and outside Olivia Dir. However, the additional of Freshman, Sydney Ludvigsen, has been a huge boost for the Broncos who have tallied over 40 wins on the season. Ludvigsen is third on the team in kills with 145 kills and also has nearly 150 digs.
Rylee Duessler – Waterloo
Sophia Schneider – Waterloo
Duessler and Schneider have been a huge addition to Waterloo combining for over 150 kills this past season. Waterloo is led by Illinois commit Brooke Mosher and Joslyn Wolff, but with these two freshmen available to attack definitely provides another outlet for the Pirates to score. Duessler and Schneider both have well over 200 digs as well making them strong all-around players to keep tabs on.
