Continue ReadingI was wearing a few hats on Sunday getting pictures, video, a little bit of speaking, and getting some notes down on players who just kind of jumped out to me. Again, collectively this group was so well rounded, it was fun, clean volleyball to watch. The energy and communication was strong. Here are a few athletes to take note of heading into the club season along with a couple of athletes from Gretna who made the trip to Iowa for their Top 250. Great athletes, very respectful kids, and again….just what makes prep volleyball in Nebraska one of the best in the country.
Brianna Lemke Brianna Lemke 6'0" | MB Mead | 2022 State NE – Mead – Nebraska One
Class of 2022
Lemke stood out right away where she is long and athletic. Even in the various queens and split court games she was able to defend and provide an aggressive approach where she could get up and put a ball down.
Alyssa Bock – Plattsmouth – Nebraska One
Class of 2020
She’s a Senior and would be a great fit at the next level. Not only does she have great control of her platform and court sense, she has a presence on the court where she communicates and encourages – love seeing that in any player, let alone playing with athletes she probably isn’t accustomed to playing with. Speaks volumes of what she can provide to a team.
So we had some events this weekend…🎥👇😎 get ready Minnesota and Wisconsin – you’re next! pic.twitter.com/Axhs2alQhS

Brynn Landenberger Brynn Landenberger 5'9" | RS Skutt Catholic | 2022 NE – Elkhorn South – Premier
Class of 2022
Landenberger stood out with her all-around play. Next to her name I wrote “EFFORT” in all caps and she was able to provide a really strong swing as well. Great style of play and a competitor which comes at no surprise considering her training at the high school and club level.

Taylor Bunjer Taylor Bunjer 5'10" | OH Elkhorn | 2022 State NE – Elkhorn – Premier
Class of 2022
The 5’10 right side showed she could really contribute anywhere. A strong athlete with a big swing, Bunjer is fundamentally sound where she really stands out with her ability to pass to attack, as well as score from either pin.
Courtney Holsteen Courtney Holsteen 6'0" | RS Lincoln Southwest | 2022 State NE – Lincoln Southwest – VCN
Class of 2022
Big swing that packs a punch. Holsteen was able to swing and score points from the front or backcourt and also provide a different level of athleticism.
Kassidy Hudson Kassidy Hudson 5'8" | RS Aurora | 2021 State NE – Aurora – South Central
Class of 2021
I may have a lefty bias, but having a lefty on the court adds another dimension to the right side and thats what Boggs was able to do this weekend with her attacking and being available as an outlet to put the ball away, very athletic.
Macy Boggs – Gering – Northeastern VBC – Pandhandle
Class of 2021
Love the style of play from Boggs. She just commands leadership and is a natural setter. From a technique standpoint she has great feet, receives the ball in a neutral spot where she can do any tempo to any spot on the net. She was connecting well with her right sides in positionals and in a six on six setting, she just runs the show – love it!
Ella Mattheis – Roncalli Catholic – River City Juniors
Class of 2021
Really strong athlete and well trained hitter – text book. Mattheis is able to fast to the ball where she can really terminate.
Katie Mendick – Bellevue East – River City Juniors
Class of 2021
Much like Mattheis, Mendick is well trained and an all-around type player. What I like about Mendick’s swing is that the contact point is high and she finishes it all the way through.
Nebraska Athletes At Iowa Top 250
Shaina Russell Shaina Russell 5'10" | OH Gretna | 2021 NE – Gretna – Nebraska Juniors
Russell was among some of the top Iowa Class of 2021 pins where she is just solid. I know thats a term I overuse, but she can pass, serve receive, attack, and like most Nebraska athletes I saw this weekend – well trained and fundamentally. She’s a high IQ athlete as well knowing what shots to hit when, a great pick up at the next level.
Morgan Sangl Morgan Sangl 5'7" | Libero Gretna | NE – Gretna – VCN
Love the style of play by Sangl. She reads incredibly well, very aware of her platform and has little wasted movement. Another strong aspect to Sangl’s game is how she can put up a great second ball to an outlet.
Major shoutout to our two Nebraska athletes coming to Iowa to play today – and compete they did. Morgan Sangl Morgan Sangl 5'7" | Libero Gretna | NE super legit Libero and Shaina Russell Shaina Russell 5'10" | OH Gretna | 2021 NE an all around pin were so impressive! Thanks for making the trip @DragonVB1 @shainalynnruss
