To have the ability to get to a pass, find the defensive weak spot and set up a hitter for the kill, is not an easy job. It takes a player with a mindset, as well as a player with extreme athletic ability.
Here’s those that makes it look easy
She brings a crushing ability to hit and block hard. She is a primary setter for Sterling as well. A well-rounded individual heading to the University of South Florida after her graduation.
Taylor Jakubowski, 2020, S, Huntley, Sky High VBC, Seton Hall
Early in the Jakubowski took control not only made great setting decisions but hit the floor at will just to keep the ball n play. Taylor has 437 Assists on the season. In an early tournament match, hitters went right after her, defensively. A tip to Taylor, she picks it up. HIt deep at Taylor, she nails the pass. The bench was going crazy! She is athletically sound and plays with that Senior Swagger! She’s also the Prepdig.com top setter in her class.
Nikki Jones, 2021, 5’9, S, Marist
Making the transition from the right side to a setter is not an easy thing, but Nikki has taken it with stride. She has now grown into a leader and will be the one returning player the Red Hawks should rally around.
Easily one of the top setters in the state, Rachel can set the ball from anywhere on the court. In the IHSA State Championships, Rachel had a match-high 3 service aces, added 4 kills, 5 digs, and 4 block assists in the win. Looking to take her skills to PSU in 2022, the Nittany Lions could have themselves a four-year starter.
Melissa Walden, 2020, S/RS, Waubonsie Valley, Texas A&M
This setter will be on her way in 2020, starting school early, but Melissa brings leadership, hard work and determination with her as she heads down south. She has received many accolades from print and online, justly deserved.
Others to Watch
Finishing the 2019 season with a team-high 441 assists, Ava will be setting her way for Adversity for the next two seasons before taking her talents to Arizona.
NOT A SETTER, but could very well be. Sterling’s offense will run off the libero’s first ball touch on the occasion with ability to set either pin out of serve-receive.
