With 32 teams in the 18’s division, competition will be solid in every round of pool play. Here are few of our top passers to catch warming up the court.
Megan Hjermstad Hammerhead 18-1
- At 5’6” this feisty senior from Burnsville High School will be the main fixture for the Hammerhead’s defense. Whether playing left back or middle back, she seems to find her way to each play. Adding her serve to a strong club roster, Megan is sure to draw the attention of a few colleges.
Reagan Weisenbeck Southern Minnesota Volleyball 17-1
- With their 18’s team not competing at Frostbite, it will be up to the SMV 17-1’s to utilize the home court advantage. Weisenbeck is young for the team, graduating in 2022, but makes her presence known among the 18 year olds. Her low, stance gives her an edge and she pushes to balls with a fast first step. We rarely see her having to fall to the floor because of her speed and ability to read. With a platform that never breaks and an attitude of a champion, the Rochester Mayo sophomore will be a primary passer for the team.
Abby and Lauren Voll Byron 17-1
- Which piece of this duo will take on the libero duties this weekend? We anticipate Abby, the short of the at just 5’2”. But Lauren 5’8”, who will likely play outside too, shares in the responsibilities. These juniors compliment each other well and are able to overlap their coverage. With a small roster, they will rely on their scrappy style of play and these two players.
Brenna Stam MN Premier 17-1
- This junior from Andover had an excellent high school season where she consistently had 20+ digs in over half of her matches. She’s joined by a few team mates, increasing the team chemistry. A strong knowledge of the game mixed with intense focus, help Stam create plays instead of waiting for them.
Mady Helvig Southern Elite Energy 18’s
- In pool C, SEE is the 2 seed. Helping them to drive out the competition is Rochester John Marshall’s senior. Helvig was one of the top defenders in the Big 9 conference this past season. Of course she likes to hit too, but having her wit the opposite color jerseys is more beneficial to her team. Look for her to take and set up a lot of the out of system passes this weekend.
Jordyn Walstrom OMG Athlete 18 Elite
- From small town of BBE,Jordyn, is a savy player with personality and passion for the game. She does a great job of positioning herself off the blockers shoulders while still reading the hitters. Last year her club named her as the 2019 OMG Athlete – Player of the Year. Probably due to her endless effort, perfect angles, and energetic leadership.
