I recently interviewed Crystal Smith, who coaches the 18’s team about Panhandle Nebraska Juniors Club.
How did your club form?
Playing in Rocky Mountain Region (RMR) in Colorado we are a satellite club of NEVBC (North Eastern VBC, Sterling, CO). Formed from 3 moms, their daughters, and their desire to form a competitive panhandle team we pulled players from the surrounding schools to form last year. All the girls are multi-sport talented athletes playing basketball, soccer, track and tennis. Practice time is limited working around the other sports and the fact that most of the girls are coming from 100 miles radius to meet and practice in Gering.
What is your season outlook?
Panhandle 18 Jrs. returns 5 players and adds 4 to the roster this season. With 5 committed players on this team they bring back lots of experience and chemistry. Loaded with power behind outside hitters Mattie Johnson (USD), Allie Ferguson (CSC) and Elli Winkler, Junior setter Macey Boggs has multiple offensive weapons along with a big block from Hyleigh Fornstrom (WNCC), Anika Burke, Sophie Howard and Maddie Watchhorn (CUNE). The steady passing and defense from Libero Zoee Smith (UW) keeps this team in constant system.
Here is the Panhandle Volleyball Club Juniors 18’s Roster:
#3 Macey Boggs – Setter 5’8 – Class 2021 – Gering – uncommitted
#5 Zoee Smith – Libero 5’7– Class 2020 – Gering – University of Wyoming
#6 Elli Winkler – OH 5’9– Class 2020 – Gering – uncommitted
#8 Mattie Johnson – OH 6’0– Class 2020 – Sidney – University of South Dakota
#10 Allie Ferguson – OH 5’8 – Class 2020 – Chadron – Chadron State College
#11 Hyleigh Fornstrom – MH/RS 6’0 – Class 2020 – Pine Bluffs, WY – Western NE Community College
#13 Madeline Watchhorn – OH/MH 6’0 – Class 2020 – Leyton – Concordia University
#15 Anika Burke – MH 6’3 – Class 2021 – Chadron – uncommitted
#29 Sophie Howard – RS/MH 6’1 – Class 2020 – Pine Bluffs, WY–(attending school University of Arizona)
As you can see they are loaded with firepower at the net and after watching Macey Boggs their setter at the Prep Dig Expo in LaVista last month she will be able to distribute the ball well. They are all multi-sport athletes who possess a lot of talent on the volleyball court. Look for this club team to make some noise this year!
Here is their schedule for the club season:

Schedule:
RMR Power Events in Colorado (Jan, Feb)
