Precious Daley of Des Moines Roosevelt Riders 18s – Precious attends Des Moines Roosevelt High School and had a .271 hitting efficiency and 2.85 KPS. She was hitting lights out this weekend.
Sarah Galluzzo Sarah Galluzzo 5'11" | MB Des Moines Roosevelt | 2022 State IA of Des Moines Roosevelt Riders 18s – Sarah attends Des Moines Roosevelt High School and as a sophomore hitting on an 18s team you would never know how young she is. I saw her across the room and picked her out right away to mention how well she was hitting this weekend.
Rachel Galluzo of Johnston Volleyball Club 18s – Rachel also attends Des Moines Roosevelt High School and plays for the Johnston Volleyball Club. Rachel got time in every set played for her high school and was on an opposite court while I was watching the one across the way. I saw a ball come slamming cross court and wrote down her number then went to find out who she was so I could add her to my list. She hits very well and is a force to be reckoned with for opposing teams.
Elaina Bohnet Elaina Bohnet 5'10" | OH Council Bluffs Lincoln | 2020 State IA of SWI3D 18 Black – Elaina was hitting so hard this weekend in the matches I watched that I thought she might throw out her shoulder. They were that forceful and well placed. They looked like bullets hitting a target and lead to my list of liberos that were awesome this past weekend in a later article.
Delaney Esterling Delaney Esterling S Lewis Central | 2020 State IA of SWI3D 18 Black – Delaney was also a beast this past weekend. She hits so hard and on target that I am not sure who will beat her team this year.
Peyton Preston of SWI3D 18 Black – I have not wrtitten about Peyton before because I must have missed seeing her in practice. She comes from a school in Omaha and though I have seen her play before I never quite realized just how good she is. Though I did not see her hit as much as Elaina and Delaney, every time she hit I believe it was a kill. She is very effective.
Elle Scarborough Elle Scarborough 5'9" | OH Glenwood | 2021 State IA of SWI3D 17 Black – I have watched Elle hit for about 4 years now. She just keeps getting better and better and better. She doesn’t always hit as hard as everyone else but she is a really smart hitter and she can hit just as hard, she just knows sometimes the better play is to hit soft and find the floor. She will find that open space however she needs to. I watched her hit three balls almost straight down to the court and left almost no opportunity to hit or recover by the other team.
Macy Vanfossan Macy Vanfossan OH Underwood | 2021 State IA of SWI3D 17 Black – Macy is a force to be reckoned with. She gathers force by bending her entire body in half at the waist and puts all of that momentum in her top half to swing the ball as hard as she can and she does this almost every time she hits. She is also a hitter that helped me build my list of liberos who were awesome this past weekend.
Elizabeth Elkins Elizabeth Elkins 5'9" | OH Council Bluffs St. Albert | 2021 State IA of SWI3D 17 White – Elizabeth is an awesome hitter who played hard all tournament long. I picked the best of the older teams to write about and she is definitely the best on her team from Sunday’s tournament and one of the best all around players also.
Paige Smith Paige Smith 5'9" | OH Sidney | 2021 State IA of SWI3D 17 White – Paige comes from Sidney High School who is coming off of a state tournament win in class 1A. She was the third best hitter for Sidney behind Kelsey Hobbie Kelsey Hobbie 5'10" | MB Sidney | 2020 State IA and Maddie Duncan…not bad hitters to be behind in your junior year. She has a 95% serve efficiency with 36 aces, with 2.90 DPS, and 22 total blocks. She is definitely one to watch.
Izzy Bluml of SWI3D 16 Black – Izzy is a sophomore for Riverside high school who gets over 2 KPS during the school season. I didn’t keep stats really for this tournament because I did not see every match but I know she had more than that from the time I watched them play. She is a really good hitter as well as a really good all around player.
Kailey Ruchholz of SWI3D 16 Black – Kailey is a really good outside from Treynor. She definitely helped her team win their division this weekend. These younger players don’t hit as hard as the older girls but you can already see it coming. She is also a really smart player and knows where to put the ball when she hits so it is an effective hit.
