Continue ReadingUnion ASICS 18 arrived in Nashville seeded 6th in the 18s Open Division. After today, day one of the Music City Qualifier, they are one step closer to a national bid. With only having dropped one set, they went undefeated and earned a first-place seeding in the second round of pool play.
ASICS began the day against AZ REV 18 Adidas (24th). After battling through set one (25-22) they went down in the second set 18-25. Union rallied hard in the third set and pulled out a 17-15 victory over a very talented AZ REV.
In the second match of the day they faced Forza1 North 18UA Kurt (11th). After dropping a set during the first match, Union returned to the court with focus. Setter Macie Garrison brought control and direction to both the offense and defense. Garrison’s play lead them to a first set win of 25-18. Forza returned ready to fight in the second set but Union persevered and won 25-23.
In their last match of the day, Union 18 ASICS played NRG VBC 18 AMPD Navy. In a challenging match, Union found consistency in middles Allison Holloway and Madison Sweeney to sweep the match 25-23 both sets.
Union will begin their second day of play tomorrow against a talented Xceleration 18-1 (19th seed) at 8:00 a.m.
