Continue ReadingThe 16’s are a notorious age group for tough competition. This is now the last season before 2022’s can be actively contacted by college coaches. These teams should be gaining a lot of attention this upcoming club season. This is a talented class across the board and all over the state. The Badger Region 16’s age groups will be fun to watch this season, and here are a few teams and players to keep an eye on!
Capital 16 Adidas
The Class of 2022 in Wisconsin is crazy deep with solid athletic hitters. Capital 16 Navy out of Madison has one of the top 2022 setters in Claire Ammeraal (6’1 – Madison La Folette). They also have a trio of big hitters in Hannah Rounds (2022 – 5’11 – McFarland), Delaney McIntosh (2022 – 6’0 – Verona), and Sienna Roling (2022 – 6’0 – Sun Prairie). They’ve got plenty of height and I, for one, can’t wait to see them in action after hearing Capital beat Kokoro 16-1 in 3 sets at the Winter Classic.
FC Elite 16 Navy
Karissa KaminskiFC Elite is a rising club in not just Wisconsin, but in the Midwest. 16 Navy will be a strong representative of FC Elite. Last year as 15’s, this group won the Prep Dig Gauntlet. Some new additions to their team are Ella Buddenhagen (2022 – 5’11 – Middle Blocker/Outside Hitter – Kimberly), a powerful attacker, and Emilie Planert (2022 – 6’0 – West De Pere), a dynamic right side hitter. Buddenhagen will be one of the fastest rising prospects in Wisconsin. They will also have Karissa Kaminski (2022 – 5’8 – Outside Hitter/Defensive Specialist – Howards Grove), a Dayton commit who is versatile and can play just about any position, and Berkley Mischler (2022 – Appleton North) in the middle, who is one of the top available players from the Class of 2022 in Wisconsin.
Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold
Maleah HoweIn Wisconsin, you will find the powerhouse of Milwaukee Sting, which holds a number of common household names on their 16 Gold team. Sting has athletes that will soon be heavily recruited. Maleah Howe (2022 – 5’9 – Oconomowoc) is a high flying Outside Hitter/Defensive Specialist who is no stranger to the spotlight at the Resch Center. Howe is joined by a very balanced attack, which includes 2022 Middle Blockers Morgan Daugherty (6’2 – Brookfield Central) and Haley Koch (5’11 – Oconomowoc), who are both strong athletic forces at the net, while Adriana Studer (2022 – 5’8 – Lake Country Lutheran), who is a defensive stud that has trained with USA Volleyball in their summer High Performance program and over the winter break, holds down the defense in the back court.
Riley Dahlquist (2022 – 6’0 – Outside Hitter/Middle Blocker – Sussex Hamilton) is a powerful attacker at the net, no matter which zone she is hitting from. The 6’0 hitter is destined for a big year. Another player to keep an eye on, who will be a new addition, is Aoife Treacy (2022 – 5’10 – Right Side Hitter – Mukwonago). Treacy is coming over from Midwest Penguins and will be a top recruit in Wisconsin on the right side.
Wisconsin Ice 16 Purple
Jessica MauerThis is a dark horse group that has some real raw talent currently being developed. This squad is led by Dorci Walker (2022 – 6’0 – Columbus Catholic), who is a strong 6 rotation outside hitter who can play anywhere in the front row. Walker actually played against her club teammate, Aubrey Syryczuk in the Cloverbelt Conference. Ice has some solid new additions into their 2022 group, including Vanessa Krueger (5’7 – Pin Hitter/Setter), who is a versatile athlete from Marathon High School, along with Alyssa Hall (5’8 – Middle Blocker/Pin Hitter), who will add a lot to her high school roster. Other solid additions include Katie Pierce (2022 – 6’2 – Middle Blocker/Right Side Hitter – Tomahawk), who takes a heavy swing, Jessica Mauer (2022 – 5’6 – Defensive Specialist/Outside Hitter – Mosinee), who is as steady as they come, and Abbi Martin (2022 – 5’11 – Middle Blocker – Mosinee) who puts up a great block.
