Out of the Muskegon area, Inside Out has a lot of standout players that shined this past fall and are ready to have a breakout club season in the Great Lakes region. Here’s a look at what Inside Out is bringing to the court this year.
18 BLACK
This team is coached by Shane Balcom and Kelsie Schultz. They have yet to hit the floor this season due to weather, but the team has some real promise. Leading the way is 2021 standout Abby Olin (Michigan State) at middle. Olin is coming off a First Team All-State performance this fall with Coopersville. She really is a dynamic talent that can take over a match. Joining her from Coopersville is outside Katelyn Fritz (West Liberty), a Second Team All-State pick this fall. Chloe Mitchell (Aquinas) is an All-State setter from West Michigan Christian, and she is joined on the squad by WMC teammate Meghan Heiss (Muskegon CC), an outside hitter/libero. Abbi Perkins (Aquinas) is a middle to pair with Olin while Grace Modderman (Muskegon CC) is a middle and outside option. Leah Ondersma and Olivia Bowman are both outsides as well. Raegan Murphy is a very capable setter that is a Class of 2021 product. She put up over 1,500 assists this fall for Grand Haven. In the back, Reilly Swierbut (Parkland College) is a steady libero that played at a high level for Grand Haven and faced a lot of top hitters this fall. The pieces all seem to be here for 18 Black. We just need to see the product on the court and how it performs.
17 BLACK
Ted Edsall and Gianna Megna coach this squad. They are also set to make their debut this upcoming weekend. Like 18 Black, this squad has some players that are coming off a pretty good fall season. Setter/Outside Alexis Strait and outside Reilly Murphy were both Third Team All-State picks while setter Sam Boeve was honorable mention. Ann Clover is another setting option for the team. The team has a lot of diversity in terms of moving players from the front to back. Charlie Baker and Kayelyn Shanahan can play the right while Lily Garrison and Alicia Mumby can take the outside. Mumby also can move to the middle. The lone Class of 2022 member, Brianna Stawski can also move from outside to middle. As the team places the lineup together, there definitely seems to be a lot of potential for them.
16 BLACK
This team will be coached by Rick Rykse and Brooke Day. They will be opening their season this weekend as well. The team has a mix of Class of 2022 and 2023 options. Included among the four freshmen is middle Emily May, who saw a lot of varsity action at Coopersville this last fall. Other hitting options for the team are Shelbie Schoenborn, Charley Klint, Jada Miller, Isabelle Bergman and Natalie Pannucci. It’s a deep bench of hitters that should make them a standout group. Grace Norris and Maggie Evans are the two setting options that can feed the hitters well, while Ryleigh Mott and Sylvie Rossman are the back-row specialists that will keep the team in-system.
15 BLACK
The team is coached by Ed Bailey and Alley German. The roster is comprised entirely of Class of 2023 prospects. A few members of the roster were varsity players this past fall. Setter Carle Bruggema competed for Fremont and OH/RS Haylee Schwartz played for Montague. Kendal Young is another setting option for the squad while Mia Swierbut is the specialist in the back row. Other hitting options for the team include Ali Trautner, Ava Dunn, Maddi Miller, Joslynne Bogner and Lauren Morea. This young squad has a lot of potential this club season and it will be interesting to see how they shake up in the in-state picture.
