Continue ReadingBadger Region Power League brought another storm of athletes (yea, that joke is probably not funny anymore) to the Champions Center in Appleton where teams are now getting into bracket play with the top teams finding themselves facing each other each match. We’re only a week into February and some of these squads are starting to become all too familiar with each other with Badger Region Qualifier, Badger Region Championships, and another power league date in April. This past weekend it was great to see new athletes who are making an impact for their team and definitely will be on the radar of college coaches as well as on path for a breakout for their high school seasons come August. I was able to see some of the Saturday morning action from BRPL and here are a few players to keep on the radar.
Aida Shadewald – Madison United 16 Red
This Sting Madison United team is legit. Athletes at every position, well rounded, and have a really gritty disposition that can win tight matches. Former Badger Mallory Dixon is on the sideline as one of the coaches and this team has all the tools to really develop over the season. Shadewald is the six rotation outside who can do it all. Serve receive, passing, and she can be creative with how she scores points from the pin with using the block or blasting away down the line or sharp cross. This was the first time I saw Shadewald play live and she will be one on the rise out of the Class of 2022.
Class of 2022 outside Aida Shadewald extremely impressive for @stingvb1988 Madison United – six ro, solid in serve receive and a big time shot maker. pic.twitter.com/TwzobWj9dV

Brooke Porter – MVP 16 Blue
I saw Porter play a couple times as a Freshman, but seeing her as a Sophomore, she has really developed her all around game and strength putting a hurt on the ball. MVP has a really scrappy group with their 16s and Porter is a key athlete for them in all rotations where she can score points out of the backrow as well. She is one the defense has to know where she is at no matter what rotation it may be.
Sylvie Zgonc – Sting 15 Black
Her swing spoke for itself. Zgonc is long with a high contact point where she isn’t afraid to attack the back aggressively. The Sussex Hamilton prep will add to their depth this upcoming high school season and will be the future of the program that has a really deep incoming Senior class.

Grace Schneider – Sting 16 Black
Schneider reaches high to contact and can really hit a variety of angles with her swing. This Sting 16 Black squad is extremely versatile with what they can do with their lineup and with a point scorer like Schneider, it always provides an outlet for them in any situation. She will be a huge go to athletes for Wisconsin Lutheran next season with the graduation of All State outside Julia Treichel.
Peyton Schmidt – MVP 15 Blue
Schmidt brings an extremely heavy swing out of the middle, she hits the ball square and she is going to be tough to stop. At the 15s level, athletes are really starting to increase their reps and training, for Schmidt it’s really coming together where she has the capability to take over a match. This MVP 15 Blue team plays hard, they compete and have plenty of weapons. However, when you establish a middle like Schmidt, it just tends to open the whole court up for everyone else.
Gabriela Magee – Wisconsin Premier 16 Teal
Magee is a middle blocker who can hit in front or behind the setter. Premier has a really solid group with these 16s where they had plenty of three set matches. They won Bracket B on Sunday with a three set win of FC Elite 16 Navy 15-13 in the third to finish the weekend. With athleticism at every spot, Premier will be one to keep tabs on if they continue to win those close three set matches.
Class of 2023 Libero Ava Rank to 2023 outside Taylor Tetzlaff – two names to know in the Fox Valley in a really talented class. @FCEliteVB pic.twitter.com/KDU9gbzs6v

Taylor Tetzlaff – FC Elite 15 White
Tetzlaff continues to get better each time she steps on the court and has all the makings of becoming an extremely dominant outside hitter. She is really starting to put it all together and can mix up her shots varying between going line and cross. This FC Elite 15 White squad is a major sleeper in the Badger Region. Their front line has quite the wingspan and with Tetzlaff and middle blocker Monika Stevens they can combine for quite the block both being 6’0 and rising.
Katherine Heidenrich – Burlington 16 United
Heidenrich brings a heavy swing from the pin for a really solid Burlington 16 United squad. She can swing from the left or right side and connects well with setter, Josie Johnson.
Aerene Lim – Sting 16 Black
Sophie Illman – Sting 16 Black
The combination of these two athletes in the backrow provide a ton of depth for Sting where they can both serve receive and provide a solid first contact to get their offense rolling. Illman has a hard, flat serve to get the other side of the net scrambling and Lim is real solid from the middle back.
Other Names To Note:
Claudia Bobb – Capital 16 Adidas
Claire Ammeraal – Capital 16 Adidas
Mckenzie Gruner – Madison 16 United
Sydney Lewellin – Sting 16 Black
Jenna Bardon – FC Elite 16 Navy
Paige Harter – MVP 15 Blue
Fiona McDermit – MVP 16 Blue
Ella Denoyer – Madison 16 United
