Here’s a look at some of the top players from the 15 Open/Premier Division.
Storm Tsunami 15U: The Illinois-based squad took home the championship this weekend with a 6-1 record over two days. They fought off Munciana 15 Gators in the final, 20-25, 26-24, 15-11. The Storm had a very mobile middle in Kathryn Beresford. Her footwork was really impressive for her age. Beresford has good size, but didn’t just rely on her length to finish points. She hit her angles with each swing. Ellen Sanders provided a really solid serve for the team as well. She was able to put together some long scoring rallies for the team.
Munciana 15 Gators: The Indiana-based squad only lost in the final to Storm in three sets. The team had a great weekend, just couldn’t come through with the key points in the championship. Brynn Zastrow was a noticeable hitter for the team. She was a consistent finisher at the net that really wanted the ball coming to her. That showed a lot of leadership skills and determination. Setter Macie Bowden also was a standout. She made a number of good decisions with her sets and was able to put her hitters in great position to finish.
Munciana Indy 15 Moana: Moana won its first eights sets before coming up short against Storm in the semifinals. The team had some aggressive hitters, led by outside Taylor Lewis, a Class of 2024 prospect. Despite being younger in age, Lewis was still able to go toe-to-toe with other hitters in the division. She didn’t back down from the challenge. Middle Reagan Kleiman also was a force for Moana. She was able to consistently finish from the middle and opponents struggle to find an answer for her.
