Mortenson has potential to be among the best setters in the 2022 class regarding all-around skills and impact from the setting role. As there are other setters that may be taller and more physical athletically, Mortenson has good volleyball knowledge and court awareness to match the consistent delivery and location coming off of her hands. She shows great ability to distribute pin to pin from a variety of locations around the floor without compromising her attacker’s ability to get an aggressive swing. She seems in command of the spacing and timing relationship with her middles and can deliver overhead to keep their right side attackers effectively involved in their point scoring. She has good defensive skills and is an offensive setter at times in finding her opportunities to strategically place the ball over the net on a second touch.

Kandi Elite
16-1
Having gained great competitive experience as the primary setter for the Willmar varsity team throughout the 2019 high school season, Larson brings her skills to a solid KEVC team that has shown good variety and effectiveness in their offense. She shares the role of deciding on set distribution and impacting efficiency of their hitters through the right options at the right time. In system she can locate the ball like a veteran with good tempo and location through both pins. Room for improvement exists in moments when she pulled out of the sweet spot of height and location off the first contact that requires her to deliver on the move. Expect these skills to improve as this team continues to face off against the best in the Midwest an leading to nationals in June.

Holker has a good foundation at the setting role regarding her movement around the floor and ability to locate to the pins from just about any location. She is fluid through her extension and can manage a good pin location and moderate tempo for her attackers even when pulled off the net. Her footwork and follow through create the right amount of rotation and balance to regain in-system offense even on a bad pass. She also provides good floor leadership and hustle around the floor in pursuit of a scrambled second touch. As this team continues forward, expect Holker to develop higher quality connection with her middles that will help balance out their point scoring from pin to pin.

Emerging as one of the premiere setters in the 2022 class, Cotton has continued to grow her skill set and assertiveness around the court from the setting role. She provides great competitive leadership for her team that is accompanied by terrific effort to make the right play and do what is needed at any given time. She has great size and physicality for this position, which extends into executing well as a defender at the net and in her ability to attack the ball if needed to be an offensive threat. She is a key element to ensure this team maximizes its offensive depth, which is a big asset given the size and strength of their attackers across the net.
