Only five teams in the 16 Elite division remained undefeated in the first weekend and they will be coming into this weekend prepared and ready to continue their winning streaks.
FC Elite 15 Navy
This is the only 15’s team that managed to stay undefeated throughout the first weekend of BRPL and they did not have an easy ride. They battled through third sets against a competitive 414 16-Elite team and a gritty Midwest Penguins 16-Black team. This FC Elite team is incredibly talented. With Kyla Dunaway, Karissa Fortune, and Ella Demetrian as powerhouse pins supported by libero Paige Miller and setters Rachel Koss and Macy Herman, this is an efficient team. Their middles are also incredibly powerful and round out the team well. FC Elite will take on Wisconsin Premier 16 Teal, another undefeated team on Saturday which should be a great match!
Iowa Rockets 16R
Iowa Rockets is one of the top 16s teams out of the Iowa Region. This group was a top-eight team in the MEQ 15 Open Division and was a final four finisher in USAV National Division, they will also be one of the favorites in the Prep Dig Gauntlet 16 Open Division come June. Two top commits are Macy Daufeldt and Alexis Moses. Daufeldt is an All-State outside hitter committed to Drake University and has already won a state long jump title. Moses is a physical middle blocker who committed to South Dakota right before the quiet period in May of 2019. Two top prospects from this team are Kora Ruff, one of the top setters in the Class of 2022 in Iowa along with Calia Clubb, a pin hitter who is a really strong all-around athlete. Another top athlete from this team is Kelsey Drake, a versatile pin hitter. They were champions of 15 Open at the St. Louis Presidents Day Tournament in 2019 and will look to do so again next weekend.
Milwaukee Sting 16 Black
I haven’t had the opportunity to see this team play yet but the roster is stacked. This team is not only powerful on offense, with incredibly talented pin hitters including Madelyn Weyda, Grace Schneider, and Morgan Klein but also has some great athletes on defense including Sophie Illman and Aerene Lim. Setters Jaclyn Dutkiewicz and Sydney Lewellin are great leaders on the court. This team not only went undefeated in the first weekend of Badger Region Power League but also placed 3rd in the Premier Division of the Central Zone Invitational. This will go into this weekend prepped and ready to bring home more wins.
Milwaukee Sting 16 Silver
This Milwaukee Sting team is definitely gritty. They are scrappy yet know how to finish out games. During the first weekend of BRPL they beat Motion 15 and 16 Blue teams, both talented teams in and of themselves. They also brought home wins against 1W Bay 15 and 16 Mizuno. Isabell Sternig and Carys Abbott are talented setters with a lot of potential. On defense Maya Evans and Katie Stomma are fast and scrappy, getting a touch on nearly any ball. Paige Stickney, Kate Foley, and Olivia Scallon are dynamic middles who are huge assets to this team. They start with a tough pool on Saturday including 414 16 Elite, Capital 15 Adidas, and Midwest Penguins 16 Black.
Wisconsin Premier 16 Teal
This team has brought in some great wins this season so far. They placed 3rd in the Open division of the Winter Classic and are now looking to continue their winning streak in this second weekend of BRPL. This is another team I haven’t had the opportunity to play yet this season, but based on their record and the athletes on their roster, this is a solid team that will have a very successful season. Autumn Daute is a great setter who makes quick decisions on the court. Taylor Larson and Stella Zarling are both pin hitters who are smart with the ball and will make a play both in and out of system. This talented team will face off against FC Elite 15 Navy on Saturday, another undefeated team in the tournament.
There will be some amazing volleyball played this weekend across all of the age levels and divisions. As the teams and brackets start settling out this is a big weekend for teams to prove they deserve to be in the top bracket of play. Each match matters and will be important for setting teams up for success going into the final weekend of Badger Region Power League which will be played later this season.
