Just recently 2021 middle hitter/middle blocker Ainsley Guse announced her commitment to Kent State. She joins other committed players in the Class of 2021 like Julia Bishop (Michigan State), Aubrey O’Gorman (Michigan State), Jenna Reitsma (Marquette), Abby Olin (Michigan State), Lydia Harper (Miami-Ohio), Sydney Palazzolo (High Point), Kaylin Collins (College of Charleston), Abby Boyle (Valparaiso), Anna Smith (College of Charleston), Tatum Otolski (Robert Morris), Grace Allread (Liberty), Kira Buza (Oakland) and Livvy Setla (UNLV).
There’s still a number of top names from the state of Michigan that haven’t made their college choice as of yet, but certainly are capable of helping whichever program they pick. Here’s some notable uncommitted players (in alphabetical order).
Charli AtiemoCharli Atiemo – MH, Mercy/Michigan Elite: Not many have improved as much in the last 12 months as Atiemo. The 6’2” middle has tremendous footwork and terminates at a high percentage. She helped the Marlins win the Division 1 state championship this fall and has worked with Bishop as her setter for years, raising her game along the way.
Hannah Blaney – L/DS, Saline/Legacy: Blaney has been pushing herself against the best in the state over recent years and you can see her game taking a step to the next level. Her consistency has improved and she reads the floor very well. She’s the definition of a “gamer” on the floor.
Madison Grace – OH/RS, Fraser/Team Detroit: Grace is another explosive hitter in this class that catches your eye immediately when you watch her play. A great vertical, Grace also has the ability to finish out-of-system, and is a dynamic blocker as well. She could be a real steal in this recruiting class.
Mackenzie Gross – MH, Grand Haven/MVA: Gross is a 6’1” middle that can jump 9’9” and displayed an ability to do a little bit of everything for Grand Haven this past fall. She has an improving serve and pass to go with her consistent finishing and blocking ability.
Mikayla HautMikayla Haut – OH, SMCC/Michigan Elite: Haut has been a Division 3 First Team All-State selection each of her first three years with SMCC and helped lead the Kestrels to the state championship this past fall. She can single-handedly take over a game with her explosive power at the net, but also has the grace and footwork to be a standout passer and defender as well.
Rachel Jennings – L/DS, Novi/Michigan Elite: A long libero that has plenty of big-match experience over her prep career. Jennings is about as reliable as it comes in the back row and never shows any signs of doubt.
Sage Kissman – OH, Mason/Five:1: Kissman had a great fall for Mason and is an ever-improving hitter that is raising her game to the next level. Kissman is a very driven player that is putting in the work to become an elite talent. Her work ethic will take her a long way.
Olivia Kowalkowski – L/DS, Notre Dame Prep/Michigan Elite: Kowalkowski has been thrown into the fire of top competition at a young age and has faced all the best hitters in the state for years. Her sister, Emma, has put together a great college career at Western Kentucky, and Olivia looks to be on a path to similar success. She’s had great coaching and a great approach to the position.
Ashley Nordmann – OH/MH, Lansing Christian/Michigan Elite: A three-time Division 4 All-State honoree, Nordmann has made Lansing Christian a competitive program from her play alone. One of the strongest serves in the state, Nordmann brings a dynamic game to the court and will really shine at the next level when surrounded by equal talent.
Claire NowickiClaire Nowicki – OH, Clarkston/Legacy: Nowicki really took on a big leadership role for the Wolves this past fall and showed a lot of good decision-making in her attacks, by switching up offspeed attacks and powerful swings. Nowicki’s also got the serving and passing to be a complete player while bringing an upbeat and positive attitude to the floor.
Sophie Plate – OH, Greenville/MVA: Though her height isn’t as big as other hitters, standing 5’11”, Plate has a vertical that makes you take notice. She nearly touches 10 feet and that kind of explosion can take her a long way. Plate could be a real diamond in the rough for a college program that picks her up.
Ellie TiskoEllie Tisko – MH, Mercy/Michigan Elite: Tisko is a 6’2” middle for the Marlins and Michigan Elite as well that has big power and great blocking ability. A multi-sport athlete, Tisko has the movement and athleticism you look for in a college athlete.
Addie VanderWeide – OH, Grand Rapids Christian/MVA: VanderWeide is an explosive two-time state champion for Grand Rapids Christian that has received All-State honors for each of her first three prep seasons. VanderWeide has the all-around game and temperament to be a real star at the next level.
Jenna Vaske – S/OPP, Charyl Stockwell/Michigan Elite: Vaske is a hitter that can also set, meaning she has a lot of versatility and a great understanding for the game. Vaske’s got the athleticism to go with her ability to adapt on the court. Her leadership and all-around skills should garner a lot of college interest.
