Best 2023 Pin Attackers
Although our season is in lockdown at the moment, we continue our survey of recruits from the 2023 class. In this addition, we’ll focus on the pin attackers from the state of Indiana.
Chloe Chicoine Chloe Chicoine 5'9" | OH McCutcheon | 2023 State #1 Nation IN , 5-9, OH, Circle City 16 Purple (16-1), McCutcheon High School
Without question, Chloe is the best all-around player in this age group, bar none. She’s a six-rotation primary passer, has all of the shots for front and back row, can defend with the best, and kills it from the service line. A no-nonsense, intense competitor, she’s already won multiple tournaments in our truncated club season. Oh, by the way, she’s the only one on this list that’s playing up a year.
Quincy Thomas, 6-3, OH/RS, Circle City 15 Purple (15-1), Brownsburg High School
Quincy is just now jumping onto the scene because of her recent presence. She’s also being trained in club by one of the area’s best, Lori Janssen, who also happens to be Circle’s recruiting coordinator. In her club season thus far, there is no answer for an attacker of this size and jumping ability. Once she figures out how to receive serve, watch out.
Chloe Cook Chloe Cook 5'9" | OH Wapahani | 2023 State IN , 5-9, OH, Munciana 15 Quora (15-1), Wapahani High School
Another six-rotation player, Miss Cook has the emotional fire and never-quit attitude to go along with her game. She also has a whip of an arm and can hit any shot you set her. Although she doesn’t jump as high as the other Chloe on this list (9-5, as opposed to 9-8), we still highly recommend this player for the next level.
Caroline Hilbrich Caroline Hilbrich 5'9" | OH Floyd Central | 2023 State IN , 5-9, OH, Union 15 Asics (15-1), Floyd Central High School
Caroline has a unique set of skills that can carry over to any game and any team. Need a DS? She’s a primary passer. Need an outside? She shouldn’t come out, since she has every shot in the book. Part of me thinks that she’s looking to play outdoor at the next level; she won the 14s OVR Beach National Qualifier in 2019 with her partner, Grace Purichia Grace Purichia 5'7" | S Providence | 2023 State #149 Nation IN , who also happens to be her setter in club and the best setter on the 2023 watch list for Indiana. They also finished 9th in 2018 Beach Nationals, playing up a year. A Jackie-Of-All-Trades, if you will.
Faith Burch Faith Burch 5'10" | RS Roncalli | 2023 State IN , 5-10, RS, Circle City 15 Purple (15-1), Roncalli High School
Faith is a hammer, period. She also block-touches much higher and takes up more space than expected, and her attack touch is closing in on ten feet. Her whip of an arm is an equalizer, as most teams in Indiana at this age group don’t have a solid right side. This is another one of Coach Janssen’s kids, and her volleyball acumen will only improve over time.
