Emily Weber Emily Weber 6'0" | S Hamilton Southeastern | 2022 State #139 Nation IN , 5-11, S, Academy 17 Tsunami (17-1), Hamilton Southeastern High School
Emily has been playing high-level club ball for some time now, but has never truly played up on a team of this caliber. She’s the only sophomore on a team of juniors, and has Purdue commit Raven Colvin Raven Colvin 6'0" | MB Heritage Christian | 2021 State IN and Butler commit Grace Boggess Grace Boggess 6'3" | MB Center Grove | 2021 State IN to set regularly. Club coach Corky Robertson has also entrusted Emily to run the show, as she’s also the floor captain. She locates the ball well in multiple tempi, takes up space in the block, and has a “volleyball intelligence” about when to attack and whom to set in what situation. There aren’t too many that can do what she does, and she tops our list of available setters from Indiana in the ’22 class.
Grace Reynolds Grace Reynolds 5'9" | S Martinsville | 2022 State #167 Nation IN , 5-8, S, Circle City 16 Purple (16-1), Martinsville High School
Not normally from a volleyball powerhouse in Martinsville, Grace has been a regular 1s setter at Circle for a few years now. This season, she runs the offense of arguably the best attacking 16s team in the state. Her hands are ultra-soft, the ball is in the same location every time, and she’s a quiet leader. She makes up for her size by blocking over 9’2″, and has enough attackers that her deception is quite effective. She’ll also produce a point or two per set on her own with her tough jump float serve and her aggressive attack on contact #2.
Ella Bostic Ella Bostic 6'0" | S Carmel | 2022 State #45 Nation IN , 6-0, S, Munciana 16 Ninjas (16-1), Carmel High School
The only reason I have Ella this low is that I haven’t seen much of her other than on film. The last time I saw her play live was in October of 2019, and much has changed since then. Ella is long and lean, runs a smooth, quick offense and does everything that you’d need a setter to do. Her size helps on the block, and has frequently turned a few overpasses into perfect sets to her attackers. It won’t be long before Ella is picked up.
Kelsey Smith Kelsey Smith 6'0" | S Hamilton Heights | 2022 State IN , 6-0, S, Academy Grand Park 16 Pegasus (16-1), Hamilton Heights High School
Kelsey is a kid that has recently popped up on our radar, as we haven’t seen her play prior to January. Surprisingly, she hasn’t committed anywhere yet, probably because she plays at a small school and a satellite club team for the Academy. She runs a modified 6-2 with another setter on her team, and hits right side at an attack touch of 9’8″. No other setter in this class from the state of Indiana can be that offensive AND run a quick offense. Another quiet leader, she can do everything asked of her. What really stood out to me was that everyone she plays knows she’s the best on the team, and teams still can’t stop her. Watch out for this diamond.
Reagan Kane Reagan Kane 5'9" | S Columbus North | 2022 State IN , 5-9, S, Circle City 16 Black (16-2), Columbus North High School
Another setter from a not-so-strong high school program, I list her here for multiple reasons, the most important of which is her tenacity. I had the pleasure of being in the gym for their last regular season match in October 2019, and she was, by far, the only kid going hard in what turned out to be a blowout loss. She turns bad passes into hittable sets, and settable passes into killable sets for her teammates. The same goes true for her club team, only now she’s improving because she’s surrounded by the same type of teammates. She still has a full two years of development, and that relentlessness will only make her stronger.
