Athletes To Know Heading Into the State Tournament
Allie Petry – Council Bluffs St. Albert
Dani JohnsonPetry is the type of athlete where you put her on any court or field and is going to be one of the best. The future Iowa State commit is a libero for Nebraska Elite out of Omaha, but she will be spending this week in Wells Fargo Arena, averaging nearly 18 points per game and nearly double digit rebounds. She has an “it” factor when it comes to any sport.
Osage
These athletes just stick together. Expect Osage to make a push for a state track and field title as well. Dani Johnson is a Class of 2021 outside hitter who is one of the tops in the state and is also a double-digit point scorer too on the basketball court. Ellie Bobinet runs the show as a setter for the Devils and was also an All Conference performer in basketball. Sophomore Kaebre Sullivan and Freshman Claudia Aschenbrenner see time in both sports as well.
Western Christian
Coming off a state title in volleyball, Western just knows how to win. Macay Van’t Hul and Olivia Granstra were big time contributors on the volleyball court and are doing the same for basketball. They will take on North Linn who is also a powerhouse as of late in state softball.
Red Oak (Title Photo)
The Tigers virtually switched uniforms and had the same success. They key core for their team is the same for both sports with Ellie Rengstorf being one of the tops in assists for basketball and volleyball and two big time scorers in kills and points in basketball with Sophie Walker and Chloe Johnson.
Morgan Weber – Dike-New Hartford
Weber has been making waves on the basketball and volleyball courts since she stepped on them, however she is still looking for a state title in basketball for Dike-New Hartford after winning a state volleyball title her Sophomore year. Weber will go on to play volleyball at Wichita State and is one of the top five recruits from the Class of 2020.
SchubertAva Schubert – Davenport Assumption
Get ready Iowa fans, Schubert is asserting herself as one of the top Freshmen in the state in volleyball and is the leading scorer and rebounder for Assumption who will take on Clear Lake. Strong, athletic, left-handed, and huge killer instinct to win – Schubert is scratching the surface on what she will be able to do, very exciting for the state.
Calia Clubb – Clear Creek-Amana
Momentum is a dangerous thing, and CCA has it going into state tournament knocking off one of the top teams in the state in conference rival Marion. Clubb is one of the top Sophomores in Iowa for volleyball where she is a powerhouse on the right side with her block and booming kills. However, her volleyball and basketball styles are similar in regards to being a key contributor, playing under control, and finding success with whatever she does. Her teammate Morgan Etscheidt as been a contributor on both teams as well.
Brynlee ArnoldGlenwood
Glenwood hasn’t lost much since August. With a state tournament run in volleyball and now an undefeated season going into the state basketball tournament they have a few athletes who are key contributors starting with Elle Scarborough, the top kill leader for their volleyball team and leading scorer for basketball. Keep tabs on Sophomore Brynlee Arnold, she could be a big recruit in either sport.
Emerson Green – Cedar Falls
Green has been one of the top basketball athletes in her class and basketball definitely runs deep in her family with her brother, AJ Green starring at UNI and her dad, Kyle Green being the Associate Head Coach for the Northern Iowa Men’s team. Emerson will head to UNI as well, but before she has one more week of basketball left. She is coming off a state title as the starting setter for Cedar Falls in their run to the top in Class 5A.
