As a team, they played 99 sets, had 13.24 KPS, a serve efficiency of .949 with 195 aces, 11.09 APS, 22.03 DPS, and 3.84 BPS. Wow! Much of those stats are thanks to the graduating seniors in the class of 2020. Let’s look at who will be gone next fall and who is coming back for the 2020 school season.
Graduating Seniors
Elaina Bohnet Elaina Bohnet 5'10" | OH Council Bluffs Lincoln | 2020 State IA
Elaina was the top outside hitter for Abraham Lincoln and will be missed greatly next fall for the Lynx. She had 3.83 KPS, .922 serve efficiency with 33 aces, 3.47 DPS, and 43 total blocks.
Taylan Keefer Taylan Keefer OH Council Bluffs Lincoln | 2020 State IA
Taylan was the Lynx’s libero for the 2019 season and had stats of .951 serve efficiency with 25 aces and 5.68 DPS. She was a great back-row player and will be very difficult for her coach to replace.
Samantha Christiansen Samantha Christiansen 5'6" | S Council Bluffs Lincoln | 2020 State IA
Sam was the best setter in Council Bluffs last fall. Her stats were .97 KPS, a team-high .987 serve efficiency with 25 aces, 9.58 APS, 3.75 DPS, and 30 total blocks. She was one of the best, if not the best, players on this team. She directed the offense and played defense like a pro. She will be sorely missed as well.
Julia Wagoner
Julia was an awesomely athletic volleyball player who may have been an even better soccer player. Her stats last fall were 2.21 KPS, .951 serve efficiency with 30 aces, 3.8 DPS, and 52 total blocks of which 16 were solo. Honestly, it may take two players next year to replace Julia’s ability to get to wherever she was needed on the court at all times. Many of the kills that would have been counted against her team were dug up by her. If Taylan Keefer Taylan Keefer OH Council Bluffs Lincoln | 2020 State IA couldn’t get to it they didn’t have to worry too much because Julia probably could get to it, or Elaina Bohnet Elaina Bohnet 5'10" | OH Council Bluffs Lincoln | 2020 State IA could. Katie Darrington will have to get creative to get the same productivity out of her remaining underclassmen listed below.
Kirsten Spurgin, Hailey Dizona, Brooke Wohlers, Erika Rodriguez, and Trinity Anderson were also senior members of this varsity squad that will be missed next fall.
Returning Underclassmen
Kayla Schliefman (2021, MB)
Kayla is a fantastic middle blocker for Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln. Her stats last fall were 2.41 KPS and a team-high 114 blocks, 44 of those solo blocks. There is one middle on the roster for next year done.
Baylie Girres (2022, MB)
Baylie had 1.81 KPS, .911 serve efficiency with a team-high 53 aces and 97 total blocks with 37 of those being solo blocks. As a sophomore, she had the second-highest blocks on this very talented team. It is possible freshman middle blocker Azaria Green Azaria Green 6'0" | MB Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln | 2023 State IA , may play some more in the middle this coming season which would open Baylie Girres up to moving to the outside hitting position maybe? She could be powerful in either spot, I believe.
Azaria Green Azaria Green 6'0" | MB Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln | 2023 State IA (2023, MB)
As a freshman, 5’10” Azaria Green Azaria Green 6'0" | MB Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln | 2023 State IA did not get much playing time for the Lynx. I think that will all change in the fall. She would make a perfect addition to AL’s wonderful group of middles so that one of the other middles could move to the outside to try to fill the holes left by the graduating seniors. She is one to watch in the coming high school season.
Sierrah Beaman (2021, OH)
Sierrah has been biding her time waiting to get her chance at a leading role. She may get it next season. I think Sierrah can play pretty much anywhere on the court and may need to next year for her final season as a Lynx.
Jillian Shanks (2021, OH)
Jillian played all 99 sets for the Lynx in 2019 and is likely to do the same in 2020. In 2019 she had 1.88 KPS, .975 serve efficiency and 19 aces, 3.65 DPS, and 28 total blocks. Look for her to have a break-out season next fall and take on more of a leadership role for her team.
Zoe Lutz (2021, Right/MB)
Zoe played in 19 sets in the 2019 season for the Lynx. She had 1.05 KPS and 14 blocks in only 19 sets. I watched her grow, develop, and challenge herself this past club season and I believe she has been working at getting a more permanent spot on the starting varsity squad this coming fall. She hits hard. She is accurate. This is her chance to step up and make her dreams come true.
Kerragan Baxter (2021, Setter)
I believe Kerragan is going to be the new setter for the Lynx in the coming season. She has big shoes to fill but I think she will acclimate well and take her shot at the starting spot. She only played in 6 sets in 2019 but I am sure Coach Darrington will have her ready to go by August.
Savannah Maisel (2022)
It will be interesting to see where this sophomore from the Lynx varsity squad fits in next fall. She played in 4 sets in 2019 had 1 kill and 7 successful serves.
