Continue ReadingWe continue our tour of Indiana by hitting up arguably the most densely populated county for volleyball talent, Hamilton County. Located just north of Indianapolis, a great portion of all of our lists have multiple players specifically from Hamilton County high schools. In this article, we touch on our top five from this hotbed.
Emily Weber Emily Weber 6'0" | S Hamilton Southeastern | 2022 State #139 Nation IN , 5-11, S, Academy 17 Tsunami (17-1), Hamilton Southeastern High School
You read that correctly. Emily is playing up a year to run an offense that includes commits from Purdue and Butler. She gets every ball, can set any tempo, and was named captain by her coach, one of the top trainers in the state, Corky Robertson (former Ball State men’s team player). Her size allows her to block better than most, if not all, of the other setters in this class, and her “VB101” is off the charts. I have no doubt that Emily will be scooped up by a high-level program by the end of the calendar year.
Ella Bostic Ella Bostic 6'0" | S Carmel | 2022 State #45 Nation IN , 6-0, S, Munciana 16 Ninjas (16-1), Carmel High School
OK, ok, Ella’s probably 1A on this list, since her skill set is so similar to Miss Weber. You can’t go wrong with this one, however. She’s already won a national championship last year when she was running Munciana’s 15s team, she’s in the toughest sectional and conference in the state of Indiana for volleyball, and she’s a smooth, fluid athlete. There is no hurry in her game; no one thinks about her consistency because it’s never an issue. I look forward to what the remainder of her career has in store, as this is another rare tall setter from the state of Indiana that can easily play at the next level.
Ella Peter Ella Peter 6'0" | MB Noblesville | 2022 State IN , 6-0, MB/RS, Circle City 16 Purple (16-1), Noblesville High School
Ella, in all of her years that she’s played ball, has done everything at one point or another during her career. As a freshman in the fall of 2018, she was the M1 and could hit in front of and behind the setter at an upper level. When the fall of 2019 came around, she had to shoulder more of the load on defense and on pin attacking. Now, playing for Scott McQueen’s team, she’s been asked to do a bit of everything. She’s unassuming, but always gets the job done. Quick twitch and fast, she has learned most parts of the game before most kids in this area master the one position they’ve played.
Macarty McQueen, 5-10, OH, Munciana 16 Ninjas (16-1), Carmel High School
Hard to believe that this is the SHORT one on this list, but Macarty has no problem if you underestimate her. A high-rising hammer, Miss McQueen (no relation to Scott) also has all the shots in her toolbox as well. Trained in high school by one of the best in Kristine Deem and one of the best in club by Randy Gardner, she has no choice but to improve. I can’t wait for the season to ramp up again so that we can watch Macarty’s development.
Brooke Elliott Brooke Elliott 6'1" | MB Hamilton Southeastern | 2022 State IN , 6-1, MB/RS, Munciana 15 Quora (15-1), Hamilton Southeastern High School
Brooke is one of the rare kids that plays down an age group due to being a young sophomore. One of the lone big kids in this age group of Munciana teams, she’s the tallest on this list and can be named as a middle first. She’s smart, hits well on multiple play calls, and is a space-eating blocker. She might not be getting a lot of recruiting contacts at this point; this would be the steal of the class if she gains a little bit of strength.
