Lovie Wallace Lovie Wallace 6'0" | MB Hamilton Southeastern | 2022 State IN , 6-0, MB, Munciana 16 Ninjas (16-1), Heritage Christian School
We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again; Miss Wallace isn’t just the “other” middle on a state championship team (the other being Purdue ’21 recruit Raven Colvin Raven Colvin 6'0" | MB Heritage Christian | 2021 State IN ). Lovie takes up space in the block, is fast-footed both in front of and behind the setter and can hit every shot a middle can make. Playing bigger than her six foot frame is also a huge advantage.
Cadence Notter Cadence Notter 5'6" | DS/L Covenant Christian | 2022 State IN , 5-6, DS, Circle City 16 Purple (16-1), Covenant Christian School
Located on the west side of Indianapolis, just outside of the circle, is a small yet very solid volleyball program at Covenant. They seem to produce great passers and defenders, almost a poor man’s Muncie. Cadence is another in a long line of passers that can play multiple positions in defense and is fearless in serve receive. Don’t let her 5-6 size fool you, she covers more ground that most her size.
Kimora Whetstone Kimora Whetstone 5'9" | MB Lawrence North | 2022 State IN , 5-9, MB/OH, Munciana 16 Ninjas (16-1), Lawrence North High School
Located just a couple of miles from her teammate Lovie, Kimora is her opposite middle on one of the top 16s teams in the midwest. But at 5-9, she’s overlooked ALL THE TIME. First things first—she’s faster than your lumbering middles and can block your high-flying pin hitters, so there’s that. Second, she’s listed as an outside as well because she can; she’s been asked to play a little outside in both high school and her early club years. Put all of that together, and you have a complete player. Sounds like she fits right in with the Munciana way.
Kaitlin Fasbender Kaitlin Fasbender 5'10" | MB Lawrence North | 2022 State IN , 5-10, MB, Academy 16 Yeti (16-1), Lawrence North High School
Kaitlin is not far behind Kimora in the speed department, but what she lacks in explosiveness, she gains in attack touch. Currently touching 9-9, she is a true middle that can hit all sets in transition, and has arguably the best trainer at Academy as her coach, Travis Fuller. People see the number, 5-10, and automatically think, “Under six foot, no thanks.” I see the number 9-9, and say, “Hmmm, can we get that attack touch to ten feet?” Three inches in two years is not hard, and Kaitlin’s only getting better.
Ariel Helm Ariel Helm 6'0" | MB Lawrence North | 2022 State IN , 6-0, MB, Team Indiana Elite 16 (16-1), North Central High School
Looks like all of the middles in Indianapolis are in the ’22 class. Enter Miss Helm, who has traits that combine all of the middles above into her skill set. She’s broad-shouldered, so strength isn’t an issue. She’s fast, and can hit one- and two-footed in any situation. She takes up space in the block. She gets UP, making her similar to Kaitlin above. The one thing that might make her a step above some of the ladies listed above? She’s terminal. Who wants a middle that ALMOST puts the ball away? When Ariel touches the ball, it goes to the floor. Period.
