Continue ReadingThe Class of 2022’s are in a bit of an odd predicament, as we all are during this time quarantine. They can send out information to coaches, but can’t necessarily have direct communication (but D2’s can chat). I’ve seen a lot of great liberos and for me, evaluating a libero takes longer than just watching them pass one time. How they move, how they pass in serve receive in comparison to take a hard driven ball, and at the end of the day what intangibles do they bring to the court. Here are some real solid liberos from the Class of 2022 to keep on your radar.
Adriana Studer Adriana Studer DS/L Lake Country Lutheran | 2022 State #187 Nation WI – Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold (Gold Jersey on Title Photo)
Studer has been in the mix as a top libero for her Class of 2022 in the state of Wisconsin. Just solid, steady, and dependable, Studer has been the product of top training through her club and has experience with USA Volleyball, most recently training in Colorado Springs with other top athletes across the country. She’s been a key piece to the puzzle for Sting 16 Gold getting them in system.
[player_tooltip player_id="79242" first="Alayna" last="Finucan"]Alayna Finucan Alayna Finucan 5'5" | DS/L Webster City | 2022 State IA – Club Ignit Select 16 Blue (IA)
Finucan was on fire at Triple Crown in Kansas City, enroute to their championship title for 16 Elite. She’s quick, scrappy, and is in the right spot which makes her handling a hard driven swing look easy. She also has a presence of positive body language where she’s cool, calm, and collected which is always needed at the libero position.
Hannah Benes Hannah Benes DS/L Antioch | 2022 State IL – Balance 18 White (IL)
Benes jumped on the radar early at the Prep Dig Wisconsin Top 250 as a Freshman. Athletic and very long, Benes has quite a range where she can cover a lot of ground. Well trained and great with being able to anticipate the next step, she has asserted herself in Northern Illinois as one to watch playing up two age levels on the Balance 18 White squad that finished off February with a strong showing at the JVA Showcase in the Dells.
Tatum Carlson Tatum Carlson 5'6" | DS/L Tri-Center | 2022 State IA – SWI Third Degree (IA)
Carlson has been a standout the past two seasons where she is a point scorer on the pin for her high school team, but will be a strong libero to take note of out of the Class of 2022. She has a knack for the game with her ability to contribute in multiple ways. Her overall athleticism provides a major upside as well.
Madisen Miller Madisen Miller 5'8" | DS/L Appleton North | 2022 State WI – FC Elite 17 Navy
MillerMiller has skyrocketed in the past year with playing up an age group the past two seasons for club. Her passion for the sport reflects in her work ethic and her performance on the court is a result of what she has put in. She has great platform awareness, is reliable in being able to pick up the tips and even the platform of others, reading where she can save a second contact. She is a top twenty player overall in her class and will be one who will continue to improve.
Gabbie Schroeder – Iowa Rockets 16R
Schroder has been a consistent force as a libero for Rockets the past two seasons where she is so quietly effective. Iowa Rockets has such a fast paced offense where setter Kora Ruff Kora Ruff 5'9" | S Pleasant Valley | 2022 State #86 Nation IA is always running a fast tempo to her attackers which is the result of a solid first contact. Schroeder is rising in the state of Iowa and once play resumes, she will be one to make sure to keep tabs on.
Ella Koloc Ella Koloc 5'4" | DS/L West Delaware | 2022 State IA – West Delaware HS (IA)
I was able to see Koloc play a couple times in Iowa last year, most recently at the state tournament and she was so quick laterally and really solid with her platform. She is a multisport star making a huge impact for West Delaware who is not only a top program in volleyball, but will be one of the top teams in softball as well where Koloc hit .355 as a Freshman last season in their state tournament run.
Michaela Riege Michaela Riege 5'7" | DS/L Waterloo | 2022 State WI – FC Elite 16 Navy (WI)
Riege always provides a solid first contact for FC Elite 16 Navy. She was also a big key for Waterloo High School and their run to the final four in Wisconsin last season. In 2019, Riege had over 550 digs as a Sophomore which was tops in the state for the Class of 2022.
