Through personal experiences with tire dips finishing RAGBRAI in Davenport to then being able to spend the weekend there for our Tour of Iowa Showcase, there are so many great places in this area. Volleyball comes along with that with multiple options for clubs as well as top high school programs on both sides of the river, the area is starting to build plenty of prospects that college coaches would welcome into their programs. Here are a few from the Class of 2021 and 2022. I know there are plenty more…
*I kept it pretty tight to the Quad Cities, I did open it up for Eldridge on the North end of Davenport.
Kora Ruff Kora Ruff 5'9" | S Pleasant Valley | 2022 State #86 Nation IA – Pleasant Valley – Iowa Rockets 16R
Ruff is one of the top available setters in the Class of 2022. She is spot on with her placement, knows what’s happening on the other side of the net, and just has this feel for the game. A relentless worker as well, Ruff continues to improve her game and was key in getting Pleasant Valley to the state semifinals. They will look to reload to have another appearance in 2020.
Ella Ramsay Ella Ramsay 6'1" | MB Moline (IL) | 2022 State IA – Moline – Iowa Rockets 16R
Angel #12Ramsey is dynamic and athletic with how she moves from pin to pin. She connects extremely well with Ruff as they team up on their Rockets 16R squad, one of the top 16s teams in the region. An offensive and defensive threat she can attack with a variety of tempos and score points in multiple ways.
Annie Stotlar Annie Stotlar OH Bettendorf | 2021 State IA , Caidince Cleveland Caidince Cleveland DS/L Bettendorf | 2021 State IA , Johnaizjha Angel Johnaizjha Angel MB Bettendorf | 2021 State IA – Bettendorf – Iowa Select
Riley Deere Riley Deere DS/L Bettendorf | 2021 State IA – Bettendorf – Platform Elite
I really like this core of Bettendorf athletes who all offer something a little different. Stotlar is the all around athlete who is just steady and consistent, being able to contribute from either pin. She has the demeanor where she will do whatever her team needs. Angel has athleticism and physicality to play high at the net and be such a presence that teams always have to know where she is in system. Cleveland is so gritty and just has this spark on the court where she is determined to keep the ball in play. A definite athleticism and physicality to her game that is fun to watch. Deere is so smooth, solid, consistent where she has great platform awareness and keeps everything under control, she was fun to watch at the Tour of Iowa Showcase this past January.
Audrey Lamphier – Moline – Platform Elite
Electric! With how Lamphier can jump and move along the net she can flat our score points and again, one of those players who just brings a spark and energy to her team. A 5’11 middle blocker, Lamphier is a headache for the other side of the net because she can run various tempos and go behind the setter as well. A hidden gem who will translate nicely to the next level with her versatility and athleticism.
Emma Schubert Emma Schubert OH Assumption | 2021 State IA – Davenport Assumption – Iowa Select
Assumption at the 2019 state tournament.Annabelle Costello – Davenport Assumption – Iowa Select
Claire Smith – Davenport Assumption – Iowa Select
Assumption has built themselves into a force to be reckoned with for all classes in the Quad Cities. These Seniors will look to get back to their third consecutive season. Schubert is a high flyer on the outside with an aggressive approach and swing and is one who just seems to keep everyone together. Costello is the savvy setter who finds a way to get her attackers in position to terminate. Smith is a middle who had an impressive outing at the Tour of Iowa Top 250. She is active along the net and will be looked at to be an offensive threat in 2020 for the Knights.
Ella McLaughlin Ella McLaughlin 5'10" | OH North Scott | 2022 State IA – North Scott – Iowa Rockets 16R
McLaughlin continues to get better each time I see her take the court. From seeing her as a 15s for Iowa Rockets to the state tournament with North Scott and this February when she played at the Badger Region Power League with Iowa Rockets 16R she has a great swing, her all around defensive game is picking up and definitely has the athletic tools to be a great pick up at the next level. She will be the go to attacker for the Lancers this Fall in which will be a deep battle in the MAC.
