Often times when any kind of volleyball highlights are shown in the mainstream it’s an Outside Hitter doing something dramatic that earns the attention of the viewing audience, and rightfully so.
It’s not an enviable position to assume, being the center of attention. That means all eyes are on you. Like a magnet, focus is drawn in that direction. For those currently taking the court on the 15U level all those details are magnified by the fact the opposition has the possibility of making real leaps and bounds in both ability and technique from not only one season to the next, but one from one game to another.
This is the time in the career of an Outside Hitter that everything either starts coming together or it doesn’t. In Michigan the list of those with the potential to possibly keep improving in 15U competition certainly isn’t endless, but it does include athletes such as…
LIZZIE MACINTOSH
Layered within her highlights on Maxpreps.com is a gentle touch at the net, especially from the front corners. Considering this Rockford High School freshman is six-foot-one this style certainly lends itself to what’s to come. At the same time she has the ability to spike the ball with enough velocity to put it past the players in the back row if they’re not both prepared and willing to stand in. The fact MacIntosh can also power through multiple defenders at the net is a bonus that’ll pay more and more dividends as her time with Far Out 15 Black goes on.
SIENNA DAILEY
Playing her club ball for Michigan Elite Volleyball 15 Elite, Dailey was a bit of a quiet storm in 2019-20 at South Lyon High School. While the Lions were 19-20 overall, 6-2 league, to end up ranked 132nd in the state and 3,798th nationally, this freshman’s contribution to that effort included 120 kills, 19 triple-blocks, 17 digs and two aces over the duration of 75 sets. Dailey wears number five for both squads, is also listed as an Opposite/Right Side and is a member of the class of 2023, as well.
TAYLOR STEPHENS
In 2019-20 this five-foot-10 freshman wore number eight for Okemos High School. On top of that she also laid down 283 digs, 176 kills, 32 triple-blocks and 20 aces in an even 100 sets of action. For the Chieftains that worked out to rankings of 137th in the state and 3,968th nationally with a record of 19-16-2 overall, 11-1 league. In club action Stephens puts in work for Far Out 15 Black in Grand Rapids.
EMMA HALL
A member of the class of 2021, Hall participated in 146 set in 2019-20 for Lowell High School. In turn the Red Arrows found a way to parlay her 516 digs, 74 aces and seven kills into rankings of third in the state and 97th in the nation with a record of 55-4 overall, 12-0 league. Presently Hall, who also lines up at Libero, is on the roster with Michigan Elite Volleyball 15 National Select East.
PAYTON RICE
Even though 2019-20 wasn’t kind to her high school, Harper Creek, which ended up with a record of 6-23-5 overall, 0-4 league, to get pinned with rankings of 241st in Michigan and 7,479th in the nation, this five-foot-nine freshman still found a way to put that time to good use. Specifically, in 50 sets played Rice raked in 119 kills, 92 digs and 35 aces. On the court she’s just as strong with one hand as she is with two and finds ways to contribute whether stationed in the front or back row for Far Out 15 Black.
OLIVIA DOBBS
Currently on the roster for Michigan Elite Volleyball 15 National Select East, this five-foot-eight freshman attends Regina High School in Warren. In 2019-20 perhaps she only made it on the court for 10 sets, but somehow Dobbs still managed to create six kills, five digs, four triple-blocks and one ace to help the Blue and White win 23 of its 35 contests. That includes going 6-1 in league play to wind up ranked 121st in the state and 3,596th nationally.
Other 15U Outside Hitters for Far Out Volleyball include Kennedy Louisell Kennedy Louisell 6'0" | OH Forest Hills Northern | 2023 State #140 Nation MI of Far Out 15 Black, Paige Williamson, Meredith Simmons and Izzy Wheeler from Far Out 15 Red and Far Out 15 Silver’s Maddie Fortune, Chloe Duckworth, Ellsion Kadwell, Ava McIntyre, Ashlyn Inthout and Piper Groesser.
As for additional Outside Hitters, those include Kate Stahl, Julia Pallozzi and Sawyer Jones of Michigan Elite Volleyball 15 National East, Brooke Benit, Julia Harper and Elena Rinkel from Michigan Elite Volleyball 15 National West and Michigan Elite Volleyball 15 National Select East’s Melia Hosler and Marlee Rojeski.
