For the Iowa Class of 2021, there are plenty of athletes who didn’t really get their momentum going this club season with a heavy schedule for March through the summer with regionals and qualifiers. They may have been playing basketball (some at the state tournament) or just never really got the chance to really shine. Here are some athletes from the Class of 2021 that were sure to burst onto the scene. They will be big-time pickups at the next level.
Thea Rotto Thea Rotto OH Gilbert | 2021 State IA – Iowa PowerPlex – Gilbert
Nessa Johnson Nessa Johnson S Gilbert | 2021 State IA – Iowa PowerPlex – Gilbert
These two athletes were tearing up the Class 4A basketball landscape as Gilbert advanced to the state tournament. Athletic, strong, and the type of players you want on any court you are competing on. Rotto is the pin attacker who makes things that are difficult look relatively easy. So smooth. She will be one who is sure to have a dominant Senior season. Johnson is a lefty setter who can also swing from the right side. These two along with Taylor Grinley Taylor Grinley S Gilbert | 2021 State IA will be a solid favorite in Class 4A out of Central Iowa with their athleticism and experience.
Dani Johnson – Six Pack – Osage
Johnson has been on the radar for a while as a six rotation outside hitter. This past winter, Johnson was a 2nd Team All State Basketball player, helping lead the Green Devils to a state runner up finish while also making the All Tournament Team. Six Pack is typically playing their best the second half of the season, always in the hunt for an Open bid to USAV. Johnson could be a dual sport success at the next level (she is also a stronger golfer). Either way, a great talent, high character type of athlete you want part of your culture.
Mia Gamet Mia Gamet DS/L Sergeant Bluff-Luton | 2021 State IA – MVP – Sergeant Bluff-Luton
Lineya Wells – MVP – Sioux City East
These two are so athletic with Gamet as a libero and Wells as a high flying pin hitter. Gamet was the libero for SBL enroute to their state title in Class 4A this past fall and just has a gritty style to her game. Wells is just a treat to watch as she is so springy in her style. She can swing from either pin and score points. For anyone else looking for a daul sport athlete, Wells is one to watch as she was in multiple events at the state track meet in 2019.
MosinskiSydney Mosinksi – IPVA – Nevada
Mosinksi is going to be a key piece to a college program in a couple years. I just know it. The 6’1 Junior middle blocker was also a top rebounder for the Nevada basketball team. On the volleyball court she can get from pin to pin, putting up a solid block while also being able to score points, being extremely lethal off one foot.
Abbey Jones Abbey Jones DS/L Red Oak | 2021 State IA – SWI – Red Oak
Jones is another swiss army knife that teams would love to have at the next level where she could DS or set. She was a key piece ro Red Oak’s run to the final four last fall in Class 3A and was also on Red Oak’s state tournament basketball team. She will be looking to once again contribute in a variety of ways to lead the Tigers back to state once again.
