Emily Waddell Emily Waddell 6'0" | MB Carmel | 2023 State #137 Nation IN , 6-0, MB, Circle City 15 Purple, Carmel High School
A high-rising middle from the biggest high school in the state is a great place to start this list. She terminates, is quick to the jump, can cover both pins equally, and is getting elite-level training at both the club and high school levels. This is a can’t-miss prospect that can play at all levels once she graduates.
Ava Vickers Ava Vickers 6'0" | MB Fishers | 2023 State #107 Nation IN , 6-0, MB, Munciana 16 Ninjas, Fishers High School
The only ’23 on Munciana’s 16-1, Ava has ability to hit both corners on multiple play sets on any tempo along the net. She also has the length to defend both pins with speed. At current, we see her playing out as an M2, only because we haven’t seen her hit too many behind the setter. I’m sure, between the training she’s getting in club (Randy Gardner) and high school (Steven Peek), she’ll tackle that soon enough.
Ainsley Loeffel Ainsley Loeffel 5'10" | MB Westfield | 2023 State IN , 5-10, MB/RS, Grand Park 16 Pegasus, Westfield High School
Playing up for coach Kelly Smith this club season, she’s the only ’23 playing for the regional branch of The Academy. No matter; I consider her to be one of the fastest middles in this class, as her speed beats most of the plodding middles you see at this age group in Indiana. However, this is another kid we have a limited sample size of; hopefully, when fall comes around, we get to watch her dominate at the high school level for the Shamrocks.
Tess Hawkins-Wilding Tess Hawkins-Wilding 5'5" | DS/L Zionsville | 2023 State IN , 5-5, DS, Team Indiana Elite 15, Zionsville High School
Although listed as both a setter and a defensive specialist on TI’s website, we see Tess playing out as a high-level DS in college. She passes well, defends even better, and covers more ground than you think. Once the fall comes around, she should be their varsity libero. We look forward to her development.
Ava Lohman Ava Lohman 5'9" | OH Hamilton Southeastern | 2023 State IN , 5-7, OH, Team Indiana Elite 15, Hamilton Southeastern High School
Don’t let this young lady’s size fool you. She’s long and lean, can get up better than most, and has a whip of an arm. Last year, she primarily played right side, and this season has seen her play all the way around on the left as a primary passer. Her development has been meteoric, and I hope she sees some varsity time next fall.
