A look at five underrated 15th Region outside hitters follows.
Amelia Casey: An outside hitter/middle hitter, Casey is headed into her sophomore season at Phelps High School. As a freshman during the 2019 high school volleyball season, Casey posted 137 kills, 110 blocks and 32 digs in Phelps’ 27 matches. Casey provides a strong presence at the net, possesses agility and is a stellar blocker.
Inetta Hamilton: Nearing the start of her senior season, Hamilton is an outside hitter from Betsy Layne High school. Hamilton played in 33 of Betsy Layne’s 35 matches during the 2019 high school volleyball season, posting 147 kills, 123 digs and 105 service aces. One of the most underrated players in the 15th Region regardless of position, Hamilton is a excellent server and productive hitter from the left side.
Shelbie Hughes: Following a solid sophomore season at Lawrence County High School, Hughes is expected to make a larger impact as a junior. Hughes appeared in each of Lawrence County’s first 30 matches during the 2019 prep volleyball season, logging 21 kills, 148 digs and 56 service aces. A stellar digger and server, Hughes has shown the ability to hit regularly from either side.
McKinnley Martin: An outside hitter, Martin is preparing for her sophomore season at Floyd Central High School. Martin contributed for Floyd Central during its 15th Region title run in 2019, registering 37 kills and 38 digs in 28 matches. On the verge of a breakout season, Martin reads opposing defenses well and calls out hitters consistently.
Kira Osborn: An outside hitter/right side, Osborn is headed into her senior season at Martin County High School. A reliable contributor for Martin County throughout the 2019 prep season, Osborn recorded 69 kills, 124 digs and 57 service aces. A versatile player who can hit from either side and transition efficiently, Osborn appeared in 30 of Martin County’s 35 matches in 2019.
