Defensive specialists and liberos are poised to help lead 5th Region volleyball teams in the 2020 season.
Here are five underrated 5th Region defensive players.
Asia Cooper: A senior defensive specialist, Lee is a student-athlete from Bardstown High School. Cooper appeared in 28 of Bardstown’s 34 matches in 2019, recording 230 digs and 32 kills. An accurate passer who has shown athleticism throughout her prep career, Cooper digs and pursues well.
Judy Lee: A senior defensive specialist/libero, Lee is a student-athlete from John Hardin High School. Lee contributed for John Hardin throughout the 2019 high school volleyball season. Ranking near the top in digs for John Hardin, Lee displayed athleticism. Communicative, Lee thrives in both the back row and front row.
Makenna Howard: A junior libero, Howard is a student-athlete from Nelson County High School. Howard was productive for Nelson County throughout the 2019 high school volleyball season, playing in 26 of the Cardinals’ 31 matches. The productive Howard registered 176 digs in 67 sets. Howard possesses solid passing and defensive skills.
Sara Powers: A senior defensive specialist, Powers is a student-athlete from Central Hardin High School. Powers was on the court in each of Central Hardin’s 40 matches during the 2019 high school volleyball season, posting 104 digs and 56 service aces. A potent back row hitter, Powers possesses exceptional ball control skills.
Natalie Shaw: A junior defensive specialist, Shaw is a student-athlete from Elizabethtown High School. Reliable, Shaw appeared in 36 of Elizabethtown’s 39 matches in the 2019 high school volleyball season, logging 61 digs and 66 service aces. Shaw is communicative and regularly uses quick reactions.
