There are few positions in volleyball as different as Outside Hitter and Defensive Specialist.

Everything that one does well is the bane of the others existence. No Outside Hitter wants to see a player on the other side of the net who can equalize whatever it is they do well, just like there are few Defensive Specialists who relishes being on the receiving end of a blistering spike.

Yet when those same players see similar skills from their teammates it is cause for celebration. That’s the give and take that lies between these two positions. There is at least one similarity that does exist between these two spot on the court, though, and that’s how incredibly formative the 15U level can be for athletes trying to man either of these positions. At Attack Volleyball in Okemos there are currently a handful of individuals climbing that exact mountain of a challenge, such as…

ALLIE SUNDBERG

Presently an Outside Hitter wearing number 12 for Attack Volleyball 15U National Black according to Michigangirlssportsreport.com, Sundberg lives in DeWitt and plays during the prep season for St. Johns, where she wears jersey number three. The fact this right-hander stands five-foot-seven only accentuates her Wingspan of 68 inches, a Standing Reach of 88 inches and an 18 inch Vertical. Sundberg has been on the roster with Attack Volleyball since 2015 and owns a 4.0 GPA, as well.

KATELYNN DAVIS

With the ability to play both Outside Hitter and Defensive Specialist, this member of the class of 2023 wears number eight for both Attack Volleyball 15U National Green and Charlotte High School. Personally Davis is a part of the National Honor Society and has a grade point average of 3.9. Athletically her strengths include an Approach Jump of eight-foot-eight, an eight-foot-six Vertical Touch and a Block Jump of eight-foot-four.

ISABELLA SCHULTZ

Lansing Catholic High School and Attack Volleyball 15U National Black are fortunate to have the services of this Defensive Specialist and Right Side. That’s because she has a Standing Reach of seven-foot-two, a Wingspan of nearly five-foot-eight and a Vertical Touch of eight-foot-seven. Combine that with a 107 inch Approach Jump and 102 inch Block Jump and the future looks bright for this five-foot-six member of the class of 2023.

JESSI BURGESS

Even though height isn’t the fuel that drives the engine inside this right-handed Defensive Specialist, who stands in at just under five-foot-two, there’s plenty of other tools she can employ, such as a Vertical of 18.5 inches and a 98 inch Approach Jump. Add to that a 96 inch Block Jump, a Wingspan of almost five-foot and an eight-foot Vertical Touch and it’s easy to see why she’s so valued by Attack Volleyball 15U National Black and St. Johns High School.

JASMINE REEMSNYDER

Just because she attends Mason Middle School and is a member of the class of 2024 doesn’t mean this Outside Hitter can’t hold her own with Attack Volleyball 15U National Black. Instead, Reemsnyder puts to work the fact she’s five-foot-seven and rides it all the way to a 106 inch Approach Jump and a 101 inch Block Jump. She definitely goes straight up and connects with the ball at its highest point in order to use that leverage on the spike.

KATELYNN ROTTMAN

A Vertical Touch of eight-foot-five, a height of five-foot-six and being a member of the class of 2024 are just some of what standout about this right-hander. Currently Rottman is a Defensive Specialist for Attack Volleybal 15U National Black, but during the high school campaign she competed for Lansing Christian Middle School. Aiding her in both of those causes was an Approach Jump of 102 inches, a Block Jump of 100 inches and a Vertical of 16.5 inches.

Some of the other members of the Attack Volleyball 15U National Green roster include Nina Hufnagel, Brandy Warval, Fynn Matice, Kourtney Mack, Dani Pohl and Claudia Thayer.
